jiyoung Posted September 22, 2005 Posted September 22, 2005 Physical beauty fades. Why try to hold onto something so transient? Personality is far more substantial. I'd rather have someone to talk to than someone to look at.
shelly_freak Posted September 22, 2005 Posted September 22, 2005 High standards are good! That way when you find someone who meets them you know they're something special and worth keeping.
shelly_freak Posted September 22, 2005 Posted September 22, 2005
I look for a girl who I am compatible with, on a lot of different levels. The ability to have really good and long conversations is a plus! I’ve been known to have conversations with people that last until 6:00am the next morning! But if someone has a good combination of “cuteness” and a good personality, is willing to stand up for what they believe in, agree to disagree at times, enjoys spending time with me, and feels that we both add something to the other by being in their lives, I’ll tend to find her attractive.
That's pretty much how I feel about guys.
azaelia Posted September 22, 2005 Posted September 22, 2005 I tend to go for a good personality over devilishy handsome. : And I definitely concur with Cmom's requirements.
Ora et Labora Posted September 22, 2005 Posted September 22, 2005 I dont know, I know a few guys who are extremely handsome, AND have a great personality...its cool.
jmjtina Posted September 22, 2005 Posted September 22, 2005
cmoms requirements compatable tastes excellent sense of humor easy-going temperment thoughtful about others passionate about life passionate about me
amen!
Ora et Labora Posted September 22, 2005 Posted September 22, 2005 I dont want my guy to be passionate about me...just love and care for me.
jmjtina Posted September 22, 2005 Posted September 22, 2005 I would add one to Cmom's. passionate about God. I do want my guy to be passionate about me. That's loving and caring for me and being my uber bestest friend. Of course it would be vice versa as well.
Carrie Posted September 22, 2005 Posted September 22, 2005 add one more to Cmom's list: The ability to appreciate 80s movies.

shelly_freak Posted September 22, 2005 Posted September 22, 2005 ROFL!!! I can bake pretty well and I make a mean mac n coagulated milk but that's why I like my guy to be able to cook.

shelly_freak Posted September 22, 2005 Posted September 22, 2005 lol...it's not a requirment, it's just nice

With the right person, even if you set off the smoke alarm (which I have done), you can still have a great time together
shelly_freak Posted September 22, 2005 Posted September 22, 2005 yeah it can! This past saturday was pasta, it was fun.

Although cooking for someone special is infinitely preferable to cooking for no one at all.
scardella Posted September 22, 2005 Posted September 22, 2005 (edited)
Intelligence and virtue attract me vastly more than any physical characteristic. I swoon when my husband talks to me about uber-geek stuff. (Okay, he is actually handsome too, but it was the assembly programming that hooked me.)
Ok, I need to find someone like you! Oh, and for the people who like decent guy cooks, I'll cook when the mood hits me, but it's only like once every two weeks or so. When it does hit me, it'll either be something like steak or something from a box. I'm not too great on the complicated stuff yet. Plus this hurricane stuff has had the side-effect of not having to cook for myself at all. Edited September 22, 2005 by scardella
sweetpea316 Posted September 22, 2005 Posted September 22, 2005 I love cooking and baking! I get it from my mom...she is amazing... I actually look forward to cooking for my man and kids someday...
OldFashionedGirl Posted September 22, 2005 Posted September 22, 2005
So I'm wondering what you all think. How does a person's personality affect how you perceive their physical attractiveness, or attractiveness in general?
Definitely.
Along the same lines, does a great personality (encompassing things like strong faith, humour, intelligence, etc.) overcome what otherwise might be physical shortcomings?
Absolutely. Spiritual beauty is much more important than physical.
