melporcristo Posted September 23, 2005 Posted September 23, 2005 Check this out, my friend Dave's brothers in the Seminary at St. Louis are in a Catholic Rock band: www.priestieboyz.com, , There's no music yet, but it should come up in the next few weeks. How cool is that? Praise the Lord for awesome men of God!
melporcristo Posted September 23, 2005 Author Posted September 23, 2005 I'm not sure what kind of rock ... I know the genre rock can be pretty general, but I'll post more info when the music is on the site. +JMJ+ Melissa

I'm getting old, but I rock with the best of them!
semjeff Posted September 25, 2005 Posted September 25, 2005 Hello everyone! I haven't posted much in these forums (although I think they 'totally rock!'), but I am known as 'Z' to the priestie boyz; I am the guy who has no musical abilities (well... almost none), but does anything else he can to help. The Crossroads Music Festival was today, and the priestie boyz and I have finally returned to the Seminary after a few hours on the road. We'll be posting a song or two from the concert on our website as soon as we can get the original recording from the sound guys at the show. We're starting recording in the next few weeks, and it looks like we should have our debut album sometime in late winter/early spring next year. However, we'll be selling T-shirts and other gear on the website soon. In regards to the 'priestie boyz style,' it's kind of like a mix between DC Talk, Audio Adrenaline, Relient K, and some other similarly-styled Alternative Christian bands (although we like to change it up from time to time).
melporcristo Posted September 25, 2005 Author Posted September 25, 2005 JEFF:: thank you so much for the description. When Dave told me about you all -- I was like dude, I'm posting this on PM. Can't wait to hear the stuff. +JMJ+ Melissa
OldFashionedGirl Posted September 25, 2005 Posted September 25, 2005 No offense, but why is it called "priestie" boys? It seems kinda disrespectful.
melporcristo Posted September 26, 2005 Author Posted September 26, 2005 not a clue -- ask Jeff, send him a message or something.
Nathan Posted September 26, 2005 Posted September 26, 2005 I think it's a play on the name of the legendary hip-hop group, the Beastie Boys.

We found that another group had taken the name 'Priesty Boys,' so we changed it to 'Priestie Boyz.' It is, IMHO, a little irreverent-seeming, but I don't find any real problem with it. 'Priestie Boyz' is the best name we could come up with so far, and I think the name does a good job at showing that, while a seminarian must take his faith seriously and be as pious and reverent as possible, he may also have a good sense of humor and sarcasm. I think the name, as well as the mentality of a 'seminarian band,' helps us to convey the message that seminarians who are becoming priests are not 'out of touch' with the world, but are human beings who have been called to the priesthood by God and share our joy with others in creative ways. Something like that, anyways Edited September 26, 2005 by semjeff
