jmjtina Posted September 26, 2005 Posted September 26, 2005 i just got the DVD. I love this book AND the movie. and I love Gregory Peck. just felt like sharing.
Laudate_Dominum Posted September 26, 2005 Posted September 26, 2005 I didn't realize there was a movie by that name. I recall reading the book once. The main question I remember having is if there is any significance to the fact that the girl in the book only calls her father by his name. Atticus, if I remember correctly.

Or else he is just uncomfortable being called "Dad." That used to be my favorite lazy day book-- just flip it open and start reading. And the movie is pretty good, too. Gregory Peck is perfect as Atticus. And it's Robert Duvall's first film.
Proud2BCatholic139 Posted September 26, 2005 Posted September 26, 2005 I cried when I saw the movie. Unfortunately, in my Advanced Comm. 10 class two years ago, we only read the screen play, then watched the movie. I want to make time to read the book.

jmjtina Posted September 26, 2005 Author Posted September 26, 2005 Well, Dill asks Scout why she calls her Dad by his first name. she says it's because Jem does. The book was wonderful. The movie did it justice.

I dunno.. maybe I'm trying to read into things too much.

Didacus Posted September 26, 2005 Posted September 26, 2005 Read the book, definately one of the memrable books of the 20th century. Loved it. Did not see the entire movie though, but plan to (and to force my 10 year old to watch it to, I like doing that!). Gregory Peck won a very prestigeous award as Atticus Finch; His portrayal of Atticus won the 'best all-time hero' award from a list of 100 best heroes nad villains of Hollywood. At least Hollywood gets something right sometimes. (Hannibal Lector won for the best villain, there was also mention of Indiana Jones and of course, Darth Vador for you Star Wars fans).

heavenseeker Posted September 26, 2005 Posted September 26, 2005 i liked the movie but the book put me to sleep.
jmjtina Posted September 27, 2005 Author Posted September 27, 2005 i love the book. I want to get myself a copy. A good friend in high school (though a bit on the rebel/no cause for a name friend) knew I liked the book he got it from the library without permission and said I could have it. I had to take it back.
Tony Posted September 27, 2005 Posted September 27, 2005 lol nothing says loving like giving someone a stolen item as a gift
zwergel88 Posted September 27, 2005 Posted September 27, 2005 I always thought that the book was kind of predicable. I remember thinking at the begining, man, the white guy is going to get away with whatever he tries to get away with. It turned out exactely like that.
FranciscanRocker25 Posted September 27, 2005 Posted September 27, 2005 this is only my favoritest book ever written. i want atticus to be my dad. hes so just and righteous and ah.. i love his character so much. the movie was good too, but definitely not as good as the book. if you've only seen the movie, you have to read the book. its one of the only "classics" that i totally fell in love with. i could read this book 1000 times and find a new reason to love it everytime.

That was kind of the point...no matter what Atticus tried, because of the way the court was set up, the black man would end up dead.
