Lil Red Posted September 26, 2005 Posted September 26, 2005 When did the research into Dead Sea Scrolls happen? What do main stream Protestants use for readings when we use one of the 7 books of OT they don't accept? (for those who follow a liturgical calendar similar to the Roman Catholic Church) Why is there no Psalm 151 in some Bibles, and yet there is in other versions of the Bible? Can you provide examples of the Jehovah's Witness Bible that is so screwy? Where can I find the document Denzinger-Schonmetzer online?
thessalonian Posted September 26, 2005 Posted September 26, 2005 (edited)
Why is there no Psalm 151 in some Bibles, and yet there is in other versions of the Bible?
I am sure because some manuscripts have it included in them. But this is far less of a problem for Catholics since a missing verse would still be covered by either other scriptures or oral tradition.
Can you provide examples of the Jehovah's Witness Bible that is so screwy?
Genesis 1:2 "Spirit of God" changed to "God's active force." Col 1:16-20 the word "[other]" has been added 5 times where it is not in the Greek This they believe gets away from the indication that Christ was God. "all other things". Tit 2:13 "Our great God and Savior Jesus Christ" changed to "the great God and of [the] Savior of us, Christ Jesus." There are more. I got these (a couple of which I knew of) from Protestant websites which I don't advertise. If you need more PM me. thessalonian Posted September 26, 2005 Posted September 26, 2005
When did the research into Dead Sea Scrolls happen?
They were found in 1947. I am sure there has been research and there has been a few new finds since then. Some info: http://www.ibiblio.org/expo/deadsea.scroll...ibit/intro.html Sounds like you have an inquisitive class.
thessalonian Posted September 26, 2005 Posted September 26, 2005 (edited) With regard to Psalm 151 if you do a google on "some manuscripts" and "psalm 151" that is generally what it says. Some manuscriptures include it and some don't. As I said before with Catholicism this is not a big problem. It is consistent with scripture doctrinally and with tradition so it doesn't really matter if it is or isn't there. From a protestant perspective it seems they are far more bothered by a verse being inserted or left out. Many also say that Mark 16 or parts of it were added as well. That is how some get around v. 16 where it says "believe and be baptized and you will be saved". Of course this is a slippery slope if they want to face up to it.
