theculturewarrior Posted September 28, 2005 Posted September 28, 2005 When you say the Psalms in the Liturgy of the Hours, when you say "Glory to the Father..." do you then add "Alleluia?" (Outside of Lent, I mean). What about the Canticles? When a long Psalm is broken into two or three sections, each with own antiphon, do you say the Glory be after each section, or just after the last one? Thanks in advance! TCW
cappie Posted September 28, 2005 Posted September 28, 2005 1)The alleluia is said at the Gloria Patri at the beginning of the Liturgy at all times with the exception of Lent. It is not added elsewhere except during the Easter Season. It is usually marked in brackets. 2) If there is a break in the psalm marked in the breviary then the Glory is said. This usually happens in the Midday Psalms. Originally the psalms were sung and the longer you go the lower the "tune" so the glory was added to cause a pause, so the psalm cound "start again" in the higher or original tone :
