shortnun Posted October 12, 2005 Posted October 12, 2005
Does this answer your question? I am not against hist.-crit., but I definitely think that it should not be the only way to interpret the Bible. It is a good method for what it needs to do, but I have read too many extreme positions to like it much anymore (yes, that is a bias I have toward it). Peace!
I realize that the historical-critical methods are merely human interpretations on the Word (meaning that they can be incomplete, even inaccurate). My questions were mainly about the NJBC, as I am using it for a class now. I didn't know if you had any examples from it where Brown inappropriately (inaccurately) refutes certain beliefs of the faith. I consider my current scriptures professor to be quite knowledgable and would look forward to bringing some of your criticisms to him so that I may better understand Brown and the New Jerome Biblical Commentary. Theoketos- do you really mean to say that the NJBC's statements about the Gospel writers are..... (complete my/your though)...... You say something about "premises for unbelief"- would you mind elaborating, please? Thanks and peace!
nacnewman006 Posted October 12, 2005 Posted October 12, 2005 I will look for some stuff. Turns out that I have the same book for one of my classes... (jerome biblical commentary). Peace!
