the_rev Posted October 6, 2005 Posted October 6, 2005 So I know my hometown priest is ignorant, but he has surpassed ignorance this time. Also a few others have. First of all he always is speaking ill of the latin mass, and i hate arguing with him so I just give up because he never listens he just thinks he is right in his opinion no matter what. Tonigh at the opening of the CCD program year, with mass, after mass two people came up to him while I was talking to him and he's like o Edide is converting to the Latin Mass etc. etc. etc. So the one lady brings communion to my grandma on sunday so she knows I have been going and she's like yeah I hate the latin mass, and habla blah blah.... she was also my teacher last year and she is a democratic catholic and voted for Kerry. AHHHHHHHHHH!!!!! So I don't like her that much anyways. Then the CCD program person says that in her ecclesiology class taught by a franciscan says that Catholics shouldn't even have to kneel anymore! I tried defending that statement with reverence but all hail fr. Dave he's always right. Now I haven't told Fr. Dave nor will I that I hope to start a relationship with a girl within a few years, because tonight he just dissed the girls family so bad. He spoke ill of them so much. He critized them for having 7 children, I told him they'd be paying his social security one day. And basically made that out to be bad, at least they weren't using birth control or having abortions. Then he once again said he hated hte latin mass and how he thinks the girl I like from mass, how her brother is really stupid for wanting to be a priest in the Latin rite and can't understand why people want to be priests in the Latin mass. Also he said that the Latin mass is a thing of hte past and is best when viewed in a museum. Also he said that the worst thing that JP2 did was bring back the Latin mass. And then he just rattled on about how he thinks the Latin Mass should be banned like it was before and stuff. A nd I was really upset and flustered when I left and just when I tried to mend my relationship with him he goes and ruins it. Then he rattled on about how no other language is holier than the other because he thinks Latin Mass people think that God only hears prayer in Latin or something rather. Ahhhh.... I'm so upset with how he talked to me. It almost makes me not want to go to my home parish and just go to the Latin Mass on the weeknds. Your thoughts? Yours in Christ, Eddie Lee
the_rev Posted October 6, 2005 Author Posted October 6, 2005 That same democarat lady is teaching confirmation classes again but luckily i have the lady who loves the Latin mass so I was excited.
Thy Geekdom Come Posted October 6, 2005 Posted October 6, 2005 Dude, stick up for the girl you have a thing for. Other than that...just pray for him...he's obstinate and he'll never listen to a teenager, even if you are right.
MC Just Posted October 6, 2005 Posted October 6, 2005 personally, i'd stop going to that parish with that priest and go to the latin mass.
Extra ecclesiam nulla salus Posted October 6, 2005 Posted October 6, 2005 your pastor represents everything i hate about liberal priests. what an idiot tell him that the latin mass is good and fine and its not another relegion
Paladin D Posted October 6, 2005 Posted October 6, 2005 If I were a priest, I would chew him up so bad...
Brother Adam Posted October 6, 2005 Posted October 6, 2005
your pastor represents everything i hate about liberal priests. what an idiot
and yet, none the less, a man with Holy Orders. He acts in persona christi at mass, so lets not use the term idiot
Aloysius Posted October 6, 2005 Posted October 6, 2005 take one knee and kiss his hands saying "I kiss the sacred hands that bring Christ into the world" everytime you see him. he'll probably hate it. lol now, I have yet to muster the courage to do that to a priest, though I really think it'd be awesome if that were a more natural greeting anyway, yeah, some priests my fiance's priest suffered from Mahoneyism and tried to tell her that she shouldn't go to latin mass if she was not raised with the latin mass. yeah... sure... that's why entire orders have been formed with young new priests devoted to celebrating the Tridetine mass such priests annoy me to no end.
avemaria40 Posted October 6, 2005 Posted October 6, 2005 Pray, and report him to the bishop if more stuff happens. Who can imagine not having lots of kids? And Latin Mass sounds beautiful! I wanna go to one of those, but i gotta get a car first lol : Anyway, prayers for u and ur priest and everyone else at ur church, and i hope everything gets back to where it's supposed to be.
Extra ecclesiam nulla salus Posted October 6, 2005 Posted October 6, 2005 so what he has holy orders so did feeny he is still an idiot
MilesChristi Posted October 6, 2005 Posted October 6, 2005 "Like the good sons of Noah, cover the weaknesses you may see in your father, the priest, with a cloak of charity." ---St. Josemaria, "The Way" n. 75
Snarf Posted October 6, 2005 Posted October 6, 2005
take one knee and kiss his hands saying "I kiss the sacred hands that bring Christ into the world" everytime you see him. he'll probably hate it. lol
Especially if he says it in Latin. I'd try to translate it myself, but I'd only embarrass myself.
shortnun Posted October 6, 2005 Posted October 6, 2005 The only way to change the Church is to start in your very own parish. The parish belongs to the community, not to the specific pastor or priests. While these comments that your priest is making to you are very cutting, I would encourage you to find a support network within your parish. There are individuals who listen to teenagers (and actually think they have something to contribute to the life of the Church!). Perhaps there are ways you could help your parish come to a better expression of faith in light of where the Chuch has come over the past 2000 years. Prayers of course for your parish, your own strength in this time, and for your priest and those who hold similarly limiting views.
Piccoli Fiori JMJ Posted October 6, 2005 Posted October 6, 2005 Next time you hear him "bashing" just look suprised and remark: "Wow, I'd never expect such distressing/appalling/uncharitable from a holy man like you." Just don't try to sound sarcastic, that would make things worse... Although I don't think this method would work the second time around... he would kinda suspect something...
