[quote name='PadrePioOfPietrelcino' date='Oct 6 2005, 12:23 AM']a diet of 80% fresh and raw fruits and veg.
if you can juice them great.

Don't cook ANYTHING in the microwave, it takes 90% of the nutrition out of the food. making your body spend energy of diegesting things that have no benifit to your body.

Don't mix starches and proteins, they use different enzymes to digest making your body work less efficently. One night have a protein the next have a starch. peanut butter and beans should be avoided at all cost they contain both starch and protein. you can have veggies with starchs and proteins

Don't mix fruits and veggies. Melons should only be eaten with melons.

Dairy is a neutral, but it doesn' t help either.

Only eat things which are good for you in the right combinations. If you build these good habits, as well as working out 30min or so several times a week, not only will you loose weight you will be in greater health as well.

You've been reading a Hallelujah Acres book, haven't you? I gave them up when I realized they were insane.

I have lost 180 lbs.

So yes I do have some tips....

1) Throw out the junk food.
Plan on ONE day a month where you
go NUTS and eat whatever you want.
If you have that one day to look forward
to, you tend to behave the other 29.
2) Drink a half gallon of water a day.
It isn't as much as you think.
3) Use smaller plates to eat off of.
Psychologically it makes a difference.
4) SAUNTER (no power walking) about
your neighborhood. I prayed the
rosary as I walked.
5) Understand that physically as you are
you are precious to God. All others can
take a number and get in line. Who cares
what they think. I didn't and you shouldn't.

That's it my friend. I will be praying for you.
Keep me posted.

No, I've been reading Dr. joel Robbins, and talking with him, as well as my family Dr. and several other nutritionist. I've also compared the dietary research myself on ensuring balanced diets and getting the proper ameno (sp?) acids, without eating meat.

Ok, if you are goin to work out, don't worry as much about fat burn, focus on how many calories you lose.
Life weights.
Eat right and run.
Keep eating smaller meals in the day instead of 3 large ones. Your metabolism will function better and you won't eat as much.
Keep drinking water if you are hungry.
Cut back on sweets.
Um...that's all I have for you! I hope I helped!!!! :D:

Sorry I didn't mean to sound rude. When I re-read my post it did sound rude.

What you described sounded just like what Hallelujah Acres teaches, and they are really wacky. But I'm glad it's working for you :)

I'm in the same boat. I'm looking for a healthy way to loose weight, but at college it's hard for me to do so. My boyfriend suggested for me to do something like Weight Watchers, but it's a little too spendy for my budget. So I'm finding these tips very helpful.

I admit it is difficult to fully understand, if you don't do the reading and checking into it yourself, didn't mean to snap back. I just get deffensive sometimes, one of my many faults i'm working on fixing....

Thanks for the tips. I do all those things, but when you have a smaller amount to lose (for me, it's going from 150 to 135), I think something more vigorous is needed. But something i don't do which you suggested is eat junk only once a month. I have a sweet tooth all the time... I read a great quote today in a book called "Under Angel Wings" about our physical beauty compared to our spiritual beauty. I would post it had I not just packaged up the book to mail to somebody :)

Congratulations on losing so much weight! That is wonderful.

Something just as efficient as weight watchers is the Curves diet. All you have to do is buy Gary Heavin's book (www.curvesinternational.com) and follow the meal plan... no prepared food necessary ;)

Another tip I heard was "No Whites at Night"
Basically no white foods like potatoes, rice, cereals, bread, etc after lunch... Not only does it help with weight loss, but with diabetes, menstrual cycles (Less painful cramps, over faster) along with healthier hair ;)

I heard it on Relevant Radio, the Catholic Radio Station out this way... It doesn't seem very hard though really because you can enjoy the foods all day long :) just not at night :D:

You didn't snap back at all. In fact you were very charitable. I actually realized I needed to apologize when I was in the shower before I even read your reply ^_^

The biggest things you can do, which I have done, assuming you haven't done them, are:
1) Eliminate sodas. Even diet sodas. Drink water instead. Sodas contain all sorts of chemicals that inhibit digestion. Water won't dehydrate you either. Don't worry too much about the type of water you're drinking either. I find the tap water where I live is very safe and much cheaper than the bottled tap water at stores. If you normally drink two cokes a day you'll have a reduction of around 300 calories a day!
2) Quit eating fast food. Even the salads at fast food places are unhealthy.
3) Go with natural foods. There are usually more natural versions of many products you like. If you want a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, get the natural peanut butter (peanuts and salt) and a natural jelly (fruit, fruit juice, and pectin). Many food contain partially hydrogenated vegetable oils which aren't healthy at all. They're in just about everything, especially stuff they make you think is healthier. Margerine is a prime suspect here. Non-dairy coffee creamer has the stuff and I buy a thing of half-and-half every week to take into work. It's much healthier and you use less.
4) Cook properly. Often times you can reduce the fat content of food just by cooking it right. Cut fat and skin off of chicken before cooking and drain off the juices after cooking. Use either lean ground beef or drain the fat off of browned beef before finishing cooking. If you must fry something, use a natural (non-PHVO) oil and use a lot of it. Frying is all about getting food cooked fast and anytime you add food to the hot oil the oil cools down. Less oil means it takes longer to cook which means the food will absorb more oil.
5) Make sure you're comfortable with your diet. Most diets fail because people hate them. They see it as a means to and end and typically give up. Some foods you'll find it surprisingly easy to give up, like soft drinks for me. Others will be tough, like taco bell is for me. Your tastes are really fueled more by what's in the food and not the food itself. If you get a craving for something, try to find a healtier version of the food, otherwise it'll stick with you and you'll break.
6) Exercise. I don't just mean take up running or something, but often you can make small adjustments to burn off a few extra calories here and there. If you park at the mall, don't search for the closest spot. Park a little further out and take a walk.
7) Someone said this already, but if you want junk food, do it all at once. You're better off eating 30 cookies in one day than having those 30 cookies spread out over a month. Just don't make a habit of it and don't plan for it. Often times you'll find that if you forget about it then it will go away.

Just my opinion, and stuff I've found works for me.

Good plan! it works for me too

Except I drink a diet soda every once in a while

Not all the time.

Oh, and if you buy store bought juices, especially the minute maid type stuff, dilute the heck out of it. I typically put more water than juice in my glass and it tastes fine, has fewere calories, and costs me less in the long run.

Also, you should have your largest meal of the day at lunch. It's just that the way we work in modern society companies expect employees to take as little time out for lunch as possible and the big family meal of the day has been pushed back to supper.

Keep in mind that no one diet plan will work for everyone and you've gotta find something you're comfortable with. I remember hearing about that woman in Florida who did the "backwards-diet" and as crazy as it sounds it worked for her.

Here's some more tips that I follow as well (not to lose weight, but to eat healthy in general).

- If you're going to buy juice, buy Juicy Juice. It's 100% juice, and much of the sugar is natural, from the fruit juice. Natural sugar is better (and healthier) than refined sugar. Plus, it's much better than soda.

- Stay away from sodas. If you want a soda, treat it as a liquid snack. I used to crave soda, now I don't (the first month or two is hard). Now I only drink about 1 can/glass of soda per week, which is fine if you treat it as a snack, and not simply as a beverage with a meal.

- If possible, stay away from white foods. Go with "Honey wheat", or wheat breads for example, or other types that aren't bleached. Bleached food lacks nutrition compared to the organic, natural stuff. Same goes for noodles, rice, etc. However, if your doing some late-night shopping at a grocery store which doesn't carry a varied selection of such, having the white (normal) stuff isn't really going to hurt you that once.

- Stay away from foods that contain Monosodium Glutamate (MSG). Do a google search on it.
