The Hollywood hearthrob and his fiancée, actress Katie Holmes, announced yesterday that they are having a baby. The couple, who began dating in April and got engaged in June, could be changing diapers before they even exchange vows. "Tom and Katie are very excited, and the entire family is very excited," Cruise's sister and spokeswoman, Lee Anne Devette, told People magazine. Holmes, 26, the former "Dawson's Creek" ingénue, "has never felt better," Devette said. Devette declined to reveal how far along in the pregnancy Holmes is, or if the couple knows the baby's gender. This would be the first child for Holmes and also the first biological offspring for the twice-married Cruise, 43, who adopted two children, Connor, 10, and Isabella, 12, with ex-wife Nicole Kidman. Cruise was also married to actress Mimi Rogers, seven years his senior, from 1987 to 1990. Rogers had two children after divorcing Cruise. The Holmes-Cruise pairing has been in high gear since they met in the spring, and the couple has taken every opportunity to publicly express their love. Some Hollywood watchers even speculated the romance was a hoax designed to promote their summer blockbusters - his "War of the Worlds," her "Batman Begins." But Cruise rejected the jibes and chided his critics for not recognizing true love. Cruise has also been hounded by rumors that he is gay. After divorcing Kidman in 2001, Cruise sued former gay-porn star Chad Slater, who claimed he'd been the actor's lover, and won a $10million court award. In June of this year, Cruise asked Holmes to marry him atop the Eiffel Tower. She said yes, but they have yet to publicly announce a wedding date. "I've found the man of my dreams," Holmes gushed in an August interview with W magazine. Holmes, who was raised a Catholic, has even vowed to convert to Cruise's Scientology religion, something Kidman would never do. A month before popping the big question to Holmes, Cruise professed his love by jumping up and down on Oprah Winfrey's TV studio couch. "I can't be cool. I can't be laid-back. Something happened, and I want to celebrate it," Cruise oozed on Winfrey's show. The couple's baby news came a day after Holmes fired her longtime publicist Leslie Sloane Zelnick. "We were with her for nine years," Zelnick said yesterday. "We wish her the best. She has chosen to work with her future sister-in-law [Devette]. May 2005 Tom leaps on Oprah's sofa, proclaims love for Katie. June 2005 Tom pops the question atop Eiffel Tower in Paris.

Where's the common sense these days? Pray that she ends the relationship if he says "no anti depressants" especially if she gets post-partum depression. I think I read that Katie was CATHOLIC but "Converted" to scientology? I hope that's not true!
