zunshynn Posted October 6, 2005 Posted October 6, 2005 I was discussing why the Catholic Church uses the Septuagint as opposed to the Hebrew version of the Old Testament with a Mormon friend. And I explained that there are just so many references to the Septuagint in the New Testament that the Church came to the conclusion that those were the scriptures being used by Jesus and the Apostles. But then she said that most of the apostles would not have known Greek. And I didn't really know what to say... help?
phatcatholic Posted October 6, 2005 Posted October 6, 2005 tell him to prove it. the reason we even had a septuagint is b/c the jews of the dispersion spoke greek. the fact that they reference it so many times shows that they spoke it and were familiar with it. go here for references to the Septuagint in the New Testament: http://scripturecatholic.com/septuagint.html this article from New Advent is also helpful: http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/13722a.htm pax christi, phatcatholic
