Fixxxer Posted October 27, 2005 Posted October 27, 2005 Metallica - The God that Failed James Hetfield wrote about his mother's death by cancer. She believed solely in her faith to heal her that she did not accept any medical aid. She died.
onathing1 Posted October 28, 2005 Posted October 28, 2005 (edited)
i get alot of interpretations from my immortal from evanescence, but one of the ways i look at it is someone angry at God and the chorus is God responding to them. MY IMMORTAL i'm so tired of being here suppressed by all of my childish fears and if you have to leave i wish that you would just leave because your presence still lingers here and it won't leave me alone these wounds won't seem to heal this pain is just too real there's just too much that time cannot erase when you cried i'd wipe away all of your tears when you'd scream i'd fight away all of your fears and i've held your hand through all of these years but you still have all of me you used to captivate me by your resonating light but now i'm bound by the life you left behind your face it haunts my once pleasant dreams your voice it chased away all the sanity in me these wounds won't seem to heal this pain is just too real there's just too much that time cannot erase when you cried i'd wipe away all of your tears when you'd scream i'd fight away all of your fears and i've held your hand through all of these years but you still have all of me i've tried so hard to tell myself that you're gone and though you're still with me i've been alone all along when you cried i'd wipe away all of your tears when you'd scream i'd fight away all of your fears and i've held your hand through all of these years but you still have all of me
i used to think that until i watched an interview with amy lee. she wrote this for her younger sister who died. And if you've ever seen the music video, not only does she appear suicidal, but it looks as though she tried to slit her wrists, because they are all bandaged up. Edited October 28, 2005 by onathing1
Socrates Posted October 29, 2005 Posted October 29, 2005
Metallica - Until it Sleeps Where do I take this pain of mine I run but it stays right by my side So tear me open and pour me out There's things inside that scream and shout And the pain still hates me So hold me until it sleeps Just like the curse, just like the stray You feed it once and now it stays Now it stays So tear me open but beware There's things inside without a care And the dirt still stains me So wash me until I'm clean It grips you so hold me It stains you so hold me It hates you so hold me It holds you so hold me Until it sleeps So tell me why you've chosen me Don't want your grip Don't want your greed Don't want it I'll tear me open make you gone No more can you hurt anyone And the fear still shakes me So hold me, until it sleeps It grips you so hold me It stains you so hold me It hates you so hold me It holds you, holds you, holds you until it sleeps (x4) I Don't want it want it want it want it want it No So tear me open but beware There's things inside without a care And the dirt still stains me So wash me 'til I'm clean I'll tear thee open make you gone No longer will you hurt anyone And the hate still shapes me So hold me until it sleeps
This song was about James Hetfield's fathers cancer, and his Christian Science beleifs (similar themes to those in "The God That Failed.")
DemonSlayer Posted October 29, 2005 Posted October 29, 2005
tourniquet by Evanescence (maybe the suicide reference is a "dying of self" and accepting Christ, i dunno?) i tried to kill the pain but only brought more i lay dying and i'm pouring crimson regret and betrayal i'm dying praying bleeding and screaming am i too lost to be saved am i too lost? my God my tourniquet return to me salvation my God my tourniquet return to me salvation do you remember me lost for so long will you be on the other side or will you forget me i'm dying praying bleeding and screaming am i too lost to be saved am i too lost? my God my tourniquet return to me salvation my God my tourniquet return to me salvation my wounds cry for the grave my soul cries for deliverance will i be denied Christ tourniquet my suicide
It's originally by Rocky Gray's (the guitarist) Christian death metal band, Soul Embraced, although Evanescence added the second verse, making it sound even more about salvation.
hopeful1 Posted October 30, 2005 Posted October 30, 2005 (edited)
i used to think that until i watched an interview with amy lee. she wrote this for her younger sister who died.
it also reminded me of mourning someone who died, like i said i have like a million interpretations of this song. and i've seen the music video, but couldn't quiet 'get it'. The song "the reason" by hoobastank also reminded me of the resurrection, but someone said the music video was about a couple robbing a jewIery store and it almost reuined it. i hate music videos. they ruin everything. however, i do like the kryptonite video from 3 doors down though..it reminds me of Don Quixote (Man of Le Manche). not that it has anything to do with religion tho... TheOliverOrder88 Posted October 31, 2005 Posted October 31, 2005 Evanescence at least used to be Christian... Their first album "Origin" (which is rarely found) had some Christian thought to it.

DemonSlayer Posted October 31, 2005 Posted October 31, 2005 I think Amy Lee encouraged people to download it since it was so hard to get.
TheOliverOrder88 Posted October 31, 2005 Posted October 31, 2005 There's a song on there called "Lies"...its the only Evanescence song I like. It has Bruce from Living Sacrifice in it....its pretty sweet.
DemonSlayer Posted November 1, 2005 Posted November 1, 2005 Yeah, it's a great song, but some people thought that they redid the song later on with very different lyrics.
