They are fun and cool to play, however, games that focus directly on Evil, and thats the fullness of the entire game, then they are harmful and evil.

For myself, I like most videogames, but I think that some of them, like all other types of media, are best not played. I like the Legend of Zelda series myself. Halo is also fairly fun.

One thing I would like to know, however, is opinion on role-playing games (this is the next logical leap, especially if we have people talking about Baldur's Gate.)

Video games should be dealt with in moderation, like any media. There are good video games and bad video games, just as there is good/bad movies, good/bad television, good/bad books, etc.

Now if a game is played with the knowledge that this is fiction and just something fun, then it is alright. For example, like it or not, Halo is a very popular game. And it's fun to just go around and shoot random things. Basicially, if a game like this is is perceived as just fiction, like any other media, then it is alright. I play a bunch of Nintendo games and DDR, and I've also played some RPGs and fighting games and such, nothing too horrible. It's just something I play once in awhile, not something I should obsess on all the time.

Now if a game pulls you away from your relationship with Christ, then that is a different matter. For example, people could play games in excession through the night and miss church just to play this game. Now I'm not saying anyone would do that, but you get my point. Then there are games such as the infamous Grand Theft Auto. While it allows to player to have pratty much "free will", this game promotes immoral behavior, including theft, murder, sex, cursing, hate, I don't even need to go on. (I'll admit I've played this game, but all I ever did was drive in the cars and bikes and rock to the radio.) Now while some people could argue it is just a game, a game with so much immorality could affect one's judgement, and lead to temptation.

When it comes to video games, or any media, there is a fine line. It's up to each individual person, but I prefer that people should try to not play games in excess and stay away from immoral content.

Or to put it like this: What should you put more focus on, your high score or Jesus Christ?

More opportunity to interact with friends.

Zelda or Final Fantasy anyone? I practically grew up on video games. I had the original nintendo, SNES, N64, and now i have a PS2. Don't have time to play very much except when i have company over, but it's good to play to get things off your mind or just for something to do. Maybe not bad for you, unless if you spend an excess amount of time playing them, like 10hrs a day or something rediculous like that. Personally i'd try to play like no more than 2 hrs every couple of days, when i actually have the time. lately it's like 2 every couple of weeks or once a month with school. Just don't let it interfere with your relationship with God or other priorities in life. It's all about balance. just make sure you at least put as much time with God as you do with your video games, if not more.

btw, anyone play Final Fantasy X? what's your take on the game? I've heard some people say it's like a commentary on religion. I haven't gotten that far into it, but i can't quite get over all the references to "sin" and "the Fayth". It's really wierd.

I liked Zelda a lot, but mostly I can only watch other people play; I don't have the coordination that video games like that (at least at times) require.

I loved all the Final Fantasies.... I think I started playing at IV. But I stopped a few years ago. The inability to save whenever I want is too demanding. I don't have that much control over my free time.

FF VII was absolute crack when I played it. I think I beat it in a week; a very sleep deprived week. I tried playing FF VIII, but it didn't have the same charm.

Heh, speaking of Final Fantasy, I loved the Final Fantasy movie, FF: The Spirits Within. Yeah, its cheesy, and the graphics aren't that great compared to what animators can do now, but I can't help but cry at the end.

I'm reminded of Halo link-up parties. Those are great and sociable.

I'm also a fan of board games. Gimme Trivial Pursuit and my boyfriend as a partner, and we'll own anyone we're playing! Cranium is also fun, but always results in heated disputes on how far to follow the rules (those beaver dam Club Craniums!) The worst idea is to mix Trivial Pursuit with videogames. I once bought T.P. for computer for my Grandpa, and it was MULTIPLE CHOICE! Not even fun. But, I'm kind of going off topic. Oh, I forgot to mention Apples to Apples!

I always hated the weenie-rushers of RTS games during college...
