[quote name='nacnewman006' date='Oct 23 2005, 10:05 AM']Also, do y'all think someone not of the Catholic persuasion (and of the Protestant persuasion) will ever answer this thread? Peace y'all!

We only have a few Protestants on the entire phorum. So it's really hard to say if they'll answer or not since they're not on here as often as the rest of us. Sweetpea is one of them but she's wanting to convert ^_^

Latin is used by some Protestant churches, or at least they used to.

The Puritans made their ministers study Hebrew, Greek, and Latin. I don't know why though, its not really relevant.

I find it ironic.

Wow, I really want to, but that would surely cause a commotion...wow.

I'd never even thought about this topic of Sola Scriptura being in the Bible until I read "Rome Sweet Home" by Scott Hahn this summer. When he mentioned it there, something just clicked, and I knew the answer to the question.

It isn't.

A few years ago, before I ever began to consider Catholicism, I taught Sunday School to middle-school aged boys. At one point, I decided to do a confirmation class like thing, since most of the boys were newly or soon to be baptized, and have us study all the articles of faith in our church's constitution.

The first article of faith was, basically, "sola scriptura." We read what our church said we believed, looked up all the dozen or so Bible verses they cited, and discussed what it meant to believe in "sola scriptura." I didn't say so to the boys, but when we did that it became obvious to me that none of those verses really taught Sola Scriptura, and that it wasn't really a strongly Biblical idea.

That was God laying the groundwork for my becoming Catholic.

Cool. Good to hear. I actually was in a class with Dr. Hahn for a semester. I can see him as a Protestant Preacher.
Do you teach school now, too?

While not directly liked, one of the First groundwork pieces I heard which made me seriously reconsider my protestant standpoint (while still not willing to become Catholic)was on Sola Fide. It was a Debate done in California in the early 90's (1992?) Anyway, it was Fr. Mitch Pacwa, and another guy who I don't remember quite well, who is a S. Baptist. Anyway Fr. Mitch did an awesome job, and just wiped the floor with his Scripture, History and other Chruch writers.

Sola <you name it> is not Biblical.

Yup...I got to eat a lunch with him once- nice guy. Did you know that he is bi-ritual (does Eastern liturgies- in Aramaic and does Western liturgies- Roman Catholic)? Coo, huh? But yeah, I'd say that it's not in the Bible. Peace!
