It really does come up a lot in OT stories about Israel. And it comes up quite a bit in NT theology, too.

Many readings that contain circumcision also contain circumcise and/or circumcised as well.

Which makes it not too uncommon, but not so common that a child couldn't pretend that they didn't remember what it meant, lol.....
