Benedicite Posted October 24, 2005 Posted October 24, 2005 What does the Church teach about meditation? Not in the sense of meditating on the gospels or on the mysteries of the Rosary, but as in.... like being aware of energies and stuff. Sounds real vague, but yeah... I just wondered because a friend is into the Martial arts, and he practices meditation also, but is a devout Catholic at the same time.

Pio Nono Posted November 4, 2005 Posted November 4, 2005 JMJ 11/3 - St. Martin de Porres Benedicite, Remember, too, that general psychological meditation is typically a good thing. I'm not talking about spiritual stuff here. I'm just talking about quieting the mind and embracing silence - it's a proven productivity producer (how about that alliteration?). One of my classes in college always started with ten minutes of silence, and speakers from Fortune 500 companies told us that they start all of their board meetings with five or ten minutes of physical and mental silence. It's a good thing. Christian contemplation, though, is an entirely different art and the two should not be confused. Hope this helps. Yours, Pio Nono
