Theologian in Training Posted October 26, 2005 Posted October 26, 2005 I know that this may or may not be attributed to St. Francis. However, I do know that there is a story associated with this. Does anyone happen to know the story or even the basic gist of it? Thanks God Bless
Thy Geekdom Come Posted October 26, 2005 Posted October 26, 2005 I don't know if this is the story, but I do know that he told the brothers one day that they were going to go and preach in the town, but all they did was walk around and pray and say hello to people and help people with various tasks. The brother asked when they returned why they hadn't preached the Gospel and he replied, "we just did."

Theoketos Posted October 26, 2005 Posted October 26, 2005 I think that you used to be able to find the story in the Major Basillica of Assisi...however since the Earthquake much of that has been lost.

Yeah... It is still very beautiful there. The stories are still all over most of the walls, and they look quite beautiful still. Even the painting that is said to look the most like St. Francis...

Laudate_Dominum Posted October 27, 2005 Posted October 27, 2005 I've read the Omnibus of St. Francis and I don't think that is actually a Saint Francis quote. I know it is often used in that way, but I can recall reading something in St. Augustine that was much closer to that line.. But I could be wrong.
theculturewarrior Posted October 27, 2005 Posted October 27, 2005 The Little Flowers of St. Francis of Assisi is full of stories like that. I'm not sure if that one is in there though.

I lent it to someone and of course I didn't get it back. I know though that the saying is attributed to St. Francis. Just not sure why.
Piccoli Fiori JMJ Posted October 27, 2005 Posted October 27, 2005 Yeah, I don't think that story is in there...
