Fidei Defensor Posted October 26, 2005 Posted October 26, 2005 http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article....RTICLE_ID=47022 Proving it does not discriminate against the size of the municipality it will take to court, the American Civil Liberties Union is locked in a legal battle with a small New Mexico town over a tiny cross on its seal – this after last year forcing the County of Los Angeles to remove a cross from its seal. After being threatened with a lawsuit should it continue to use the seal, the city of Tijeras, N.M., – with a population of less than 500 – decided to place itself in a David and Goliath conflict with the ACLU to defend the presence of the cross. In 1973, Tijeras adopted the seal, which was designed to symbolize the history of the town. It includes a conquistador's helmet and sword, a scroll, a desert plant, a fairly large religious symbol (the Native American zia) and a small Christian cross. "Tiny cross inspectors are not permitted to fret about large non-Christian religious symbols, only undersized Christian ones," commented columnist John Leo about the case. Since it is such a small town, Tijeras did not have the financial resources to battle the ACLU, so the Alliance Defense Fund, a pro-religious-liberty organization, has agreed to represent the municipality. "The ACLU is once more specifically targeting a cross while it ignores Native American religious symbols," commented ADF senior counsel Gary McCaleb. "It reveals their desire to target all things Christian, regardless of the fact that the cross in the Tijeras seal is clearly an historic symbol and not an attempt to endorse any particular faith." Wrote Silas Montgomery, tongue in cheek, in the Arizona Daily Wildcat, referencing the placement of the cross on the seal: "This heinous crime, committed more than 30 years ago, went unpunished until the righteous crusaders from the ACLU took note of it and decided that justice had to be served." As WorldNetDaily reported, last year the American Civil Liberties Union, or ACLU, threatened to sue the county if the L.A. County Board of Supervisors did not redesign the seal, leading to a 3-2 vote to remove the small cross. The ACLU claimed it violated the First Amendment of the Constitution. The Board subsequently voted to approve a new cross-less seal.
Guest T-Bone Posted October 26, 2005 Posted October 26, 2005 I hearby submit a seal that should keep the ACLU happy for years to come:
Catholictothecore Posted October 26, 2005 Posted October 26, 2005 The ACLU is the most un-American organization there is. Why are they only attacking Christian signs? I thought their job was to prevent anyone being offened. I'M OFFENDED!
MissScripture Posted October 27, 2005 Posted October 27, 2005 Don't you love how they try to rewrite history?
Piccoli Fiori JMJ Posted October 27, 2005 Posted October 27, 2005 On a lighter note: When I saw the word seal, my first thought was of the mammal... then I realized it was the other kind.... But this is pretty ridiculous... I think they have a good thing going with their argument though! (The 'they' being the town, not ACLU)
avemaria40 Posted October 27, 2005 Posted October 27, 2005 next there will be an Inquisition against anyone who professes the Christian faith, if things keep going like this. What is this, the ancient Roman times? When I told my dad I was thinking of starting a chapter of Amnesty International at my school, he said i might also consider the ACLU. I was going to think about it, but i guess not now! So i bet if i wore my Miraculous medal or my cross I got for RCIA, they'd probably go, OMG that's a cross! It burns! It burns! But someone who wears a Star of David, it's like, o, ur ok, have a nice day. I hate how anti-Christian our country is becoming. In our school, our principal doesn't even let us sing religious songs in our school chorus, even though 90% of the world's music is sacred music. So Chamber singers had to stop singing Ave Maria, even though it was a challenging and beautiful song that they did a magnificent job on, we're not allowed to play or sing Christmas songs, and if we're singing in another language, and one kid says about a cognate, it sounds like Jesus, is that what it means, she has to say no, b/c she's afraid of getting in trouble. But we're allowed to sing a song about a teen girl who's not married and gets herself pregnant. That's just messed up. Sry for my tangent, but i have strong feelings about this.
avemaria40 Posted October 27, 2005 Posted October 27, 2005 btw, can this be moved to debate table? it seems like this would be a debateable topic
Catholictothecore Posted October 27, 2005 Posted October 27, 2005 The more I hear of it, the more I'm willing to believe that JPII was the last pope before the End times. The more I want to believe it, is more accurate.
Spiritual_Arsonist Posted October 27, 2005 Posted October 27, 2005 I fluffy air extraction in their general direction.

I contacted the head of the ACLU in Los Angeles regarding the county seal. She responded with a letter saying that they really didn't want to take on the case, but since they were getting SO many complaints, they had to step in and do something. Boy, I feel safer now, eh? People may think that we are paranoid, but from such small actions like the ACLU's, come larger things. We must be vigilant. - Daniel
Nathan Posted October 27, 2005 Posted October 27, 2005 What are these people? Nazis? It seems their sole mission is to stamp out every hint of religion in society -- oh, pardon me, every hint of Christianity.

hahaha! me too!!! this is the stupidest thing I've seen in a long while... I thought the ACLU was about civil liberties... like, you know, people being able to do whatever the heck they want! I guess their idea of civil liberties is "being able to do whatever the heck the ACLU wants."
