[quote name='annie' date='Oct 31 2005, 05:39 PM']I read them up until the book describing the pope as unsaved until he made a few adjustments..

They are anti Catholic, but isn't all of Protestantism inherently that?

But the Pope was still pope when he became saved, which for the "antichrist" leader of the whore of Babylon is surprising.

Yes, all of Protestantism is inherently anti-Catholic as it is a protest against the Church. Having become Catholic, i realize (hindsight is 20/20) that way more stuff was about not being like Catholics than I realized then.

[quote name='annie' date='Oct 31 2005, 05:39 PM']A bunch of Young Life Leaders from Wheaton College used to hang out at our house.  When I mentioned those books, these devout Protestant and Evangelical Christians touted them as "Poorly written fiction making money in the name of God"

Yaeh, it' popular in such circles for people to make fun of the Left Behind books because they have some minor theological differences but otherwise believe in it exactly with all their hearts. People at my (former Protestant) church said they didn't
believe in the Left Behind version of the Endtimes, but I couldn't deiscern any real difference in their views from Lahaye's

Lahaye is a questionable character also.

He was connected to some guy who started a cult. The guy claimed he was the new Christ...

Crazy Protestants and their cults.

[quote name='1337 k4th0l1x0r' date='Oct 31 2005, 03:59 PM']I think the rapture is so apealing to people because it offers the salvation of Christ without having to die.  It takes a whole lot more faith to die and go to heaven than to spontaneously be wisked away.

Exactly. It's all just wishful thinking. All the "saved" people will just be whisked away to paradise before things get really ugly here on earth.

The Left Behind series is pretty much hocus pocus. The theology is bad theology and the LB crowd holds to a "premillenial" view of the rapture; this is where Jesus comes to earth to set up an earthly kingdom. Catholics have historically been "amillenial", meaning that when Jesus comes again, that's it--the world's gonna end. Lahaye and Co. also seem to be a wee bit anti-Catholic.

I don't have patience for the Left Behind garbage. I'm a novelist and my novel--The Gospel of Arnie--offers a much better picture (in my view) of the tcontemporary theological landscape.

The "Reverend" Sun Moon...money has changed hands...LaHaye tries his best to hide this, but the evidence is irrefutable...
