EcceNovaFacioOmni Posted October 29, 2005 Posted October 29, 2005 Does anyone have this? I just got one and it has a TON of documents and information packed into it. It's a classic.
Era Might Posted October 29, 2005 Posted October 29, 2005 Did you get the actual Denziger edition, in the original languages, or the Deferrari translation? I've wanted to get this for a while now. Haven't gotten around to it.
phatcatholic Posted October 30, 2005 Posted October 30, 2005 i heard the english translation we have is inadequate.....
EcceNovaFacioOmni Posted November 2, 2005 Author Posted November 2, 2005 It's in english. It was published in like 1957. What's wrong with the translation?
phatcatholic Posted November 3, 2005 Posted November 3, 2005 i think i remember reading that it wasn't a very accurate translation in some places, that the best translation is actually in french, or somethin like that. i'll try to find the article......

Are you thinking maybe of Sources of Catholic Dogma by Ott? I've seen criticism of that. I'm not sure which book he has. Is it the Ott book, or Denziger?
phatcatholic Posted November 9, 2005 Posted November 9, 2005 ya know, i think i was thinking of Ott, my bad....
EcceNovaFacioOmni Posted November 13, 2005 Author Posted November 13, 2005 I've got Denzinger. It's sweet.

here is the critique of Ott's Fundamentals of Catholic Dogma that i was thinking of when i made the above post. i just found it and i thought that a few people may be interested in it. A CRITIQUE by Fr. Camillus Hay, O.F.M. OF THE ENGLISH TRANSLATION OF FUNDAMENTALS OF CATHOLIC DOGMA[1] by Dr Ludwig Ott http://jloughnan.tripod.com/critott.htm
N/A Gone Posted December 2, 2005 Posted December 2, 2005 Im not the biggest fan of the ott book...he has a bad concept of open theism in it, influenced more by its haters than the actual theologians involved
N/A Gone Posted December 2, 2005 Posted December 2, 2005 Im being very serious. (*scary thought this late) p.c. think of it this way, if someone had a book about catholics and they were unsure about transubstantiation so they ask Jack Chick about it cause he posts the cute lil comics. thats what ott did with open theism. I have a copy of that page and it makes me sad
phatcatholic Posted December 2, 2005 Posted December 2, 2005 i'm not sure if that analogy can be applied. afterall, jack chick is definitely not an authority on catholicism. he's not even catholic. but ott can surely be considered one.
N/A Gone Posted December 2, 2005 Posted December 2, 2005 Ott isnt an authority on an evangelical based doctrine like open theism and the perspective he takes is that of a Bruce ware...whom has done the same negative to it as Chick does, but without the fun cartoons.. so I stand by my words.
