cappie Posted October 30, 2005 Posted October 30, 2005 Night of Light This is an initiative of the Cor et Lumen Christi community in the UK to reclaim Halloween for the Church. Halloween ('All Hallows Eve'), the evening of the 31st October, is in fact the vigil of the feast of All Saints - the feast in which we celebrate the glory of God in His saints. Cor-Lumen Christi founder Damian Stayne regrets that, when we think of Halloween, we bring to mind 'images of witches and ghosts and so on, which belong to the dark world of the occult and magic - images of darkness and death'. He says: 'Let Christians reclaim Halloween for God so that it is transformed from a night of darkness into a great Christian festival once again'
jezic Posted October 31, 2005 Posted October 31, 2005 well the origin of it was in the pagan rituals that would take place on the 31st because they were banned from Nov 1. But i do strongly agree claiming it for Christ would be awesome.
cmotherofpirl Posted October 31, 2005 Posted October 31, 2005 I think it would be cool to go out and get candy, then go to church for the litany of Saints.
curtins Posted October 31, 2005 Posted October 31, 2005 Is it Immoral to dress up as like a monster, ghost, goblin, goul, frankenstein, etc etc?

curtins Posted October 31, 2005 Posted October 31, 2005 idk my religion teacher was telling us that we're trying to be like people who are against Christ when we do that. It sounded a bit out there for me but I'm not sure. I'm fully against all the magic and seances and black junk that people do but is it really bad to dress up as some creepy evil sorta creature thinga mabober

Piccoli Fiori JMJ Posted October 31, 2005 Posted October 31, 2005 Its also another way of teaching kids about death and about purgatory too The guy who wrote Bad Catholics Guide to Good Living was talking about it on Relevant Radio awhile ago... he made lots of good points
Philippe Posted November 1, 2005 Posted November 1, 2005 it all depends on your intent. If you are dressing up to be evil then thats bad, if u wanna have fun its chilllz.

Absolutely. Dressing up as Frankenstein's monster is a near unforgivable sin, requiring years of fasting and public penance to receive absolution, which must be given personally by the Pope. Read the section of the Cathechism on Halloween Costumes and Frankenstein.

philothea Posted November 1, 2005 Posted November 1, 2005 (edited) One of these days (er, years) I'm going to decorate my house for All Saint's Day. Little angel lights all over, and saint statues everywhere... It'll be great! Edited November 1, 2005 by philothea

The celebration for "Halloween" there is HUGE. The streets were flooded with people dressed in witch etc attire. Many were serious about it...some called upon Satan thinking it was festive. The event was called Saintfest, and the national Catholic Register is doing an article on it circa nov. 12. I will be quoted in it since I was the main artist etc. www.proud2bcatholic.com has details of the event if anyone is interested.
Norseman82 Posted November 1, 2005 Posted November 1, 2005 The next Halloween party I'm invited too, I'm going to get a monk's costume and tell everyone, "Hi. I'm Martin Luther. I apologize for messing everything up." Oct. 31 is also Reformation Day, the day Luther posted his 95 theses to the church door, for those who didn't know.
Sojourner Posted November 1, 2005 Posted November 1, 2005
Oct. 31 is also Reformation Day, the day Luther posted his 95 theses to the church door, for those who didn't know.
Yep. A couple in the church I used to go to throws a big Reformation Day party every year -- they have a big feast, people dress up like the reformers, etc. I don't get invited anymore.
Cow of Shame Posted November 1, 2005 Posted November 1, 2005
I don't get invited anymore.
Maybe they've seen the errors of their ways & have all secretly joined Catholicism? They're too embarrassed to throw the party any more....
