MissScripture Posted October 31, 2005 Posted October 31, 2005 Would people mind praying for me right now? I'm really stressed out right now. It's my first year of college, I haven't been home since August, and I really miss my family (I have seen my little sister and parents twice, but not the rest of my family) and friends there. I am having major roommate issues. I dread going back to my room. That is being worked on, but until that is figured out I'm kind of stuck. I haven't been sleeping and I hardly eat. And all sorts of little things just keep adding up, and I think I might just start crying at any given moment.
Dreamweaver Posted October 31, 2005 Posted October 31, 2005 Prayers definately! I had major roommate issues my freshman year (thank God she moved to a different dorm after the first semester). Is it possible to request a single room? Sometimes you have to pay more money (an extra $200 a semester for me). Don't be afraid to put a crucifix in your room, Jesus is always with you!
Proud2BCatholic139 Posted October 31, 2005 Posted October 31, 2005 I am so stressed too!!! Prayers!!!!!!!!!
MissScripture Posted October 31, 2005 Author Posted October 31, 2005 After lunch today (at which I was told by 3 people that I looked exhausted) I went into one of the chaples (we have 3 or 4, depending on if you count the monastary chaple) and cried for about half an hour, which made me feel better, except that now I'm even more tired, but I have class in 1/2 an hour, so a nap is out of the question. Thanks for the prayers.
theculturewarrior Posted October 31, 2005 Posted October 31, 2005 Praying for you and your roommate! Christmas is coming soon, and Thanksgiving is coming sooner. This is a common phenomenon among college students. Stick with it, and by the time you graduate, you won't want to leave. It's also important to find friends who believe the same things you do. Look around. They're out there! </unsolicited advice>

It's actually been really interesting, too, because not all of them are Catholic, and this is the first time I'm coming into contact with people who don't have any clue about what Catholics (for example, one of my friends told me I should be a nun, and another one says, "Or you could be a sister.") It's just so hard to go back to my room every night knowing I'm not wanted there, not respected there, and that my roommate really couldn't care less about what happens to me. I'm not used to dealing with people like that!

I could tell you some stories about my freshman roommate! It's hard when you have to live with them, though. If you can't take it, tell the right people. You don't have to take it! It's better, though, if you describe unacceptable behavior rather than things you "just can't stand." My freshman year, my roommate was a homosexual, left pornography around the room. I'm not sure if I could have gotten a new roommate for that reason or not. Eventually, I had to lock my armoir because spare change (precious to freshmen) went missing. I also had to keep my toothbrush locked up, but that is another story entirely. Once, one of his boyfriends blew his nose on one of my shirts. I didn't realize it until I put it on. In retrospect, living alone is the only way to go!
Proud2BCatholic139 Posted October 31, 2005 Posted October 31, 2005 Crying does help. It's not bad to cry. I just cried, hmm...2 days ago. Then I was happy again. You can not bottle up your feelings, otherwise it would be bad. Beleive me, it's true.

The right people know and they know exactly why and they understand. It's going to happen...I'm just not sure when, and it really doesn't make it any easier to live with her until then. And you're story about your roommate actually made me feel better, so thank you for sharing. Nothing THAT bad has happened...at least not yet.

Pray that He may make your heart like His! It's difficult when people around you are ignorant or hostile, and sometimes this can lead to misdirected anger. I used to get angry when people criticized my beliefs, and I'd think "well, they're just not as smart as me, why can't they just get it? it's not too hard for them to understand." However, the Sacred Heart of Jesus beats with love for all souls, even when they insult Him, ignore Him, and crucify Him, and He looks upon sinners with pity and not contempt. Remember how Jesus loves these souls, and pray for their conversions... I will be praying for you!
Cathurian Posted October 31, 2005 Posted October 31, 2005 Many prayers. I'm not in college, so I can't offer any advice, except second photosynthesis's suggestion of devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus!
Cow of Shame Posted October 31, 2005 Posted October 31, 2005 Is it as bad as having a drunken roommate that comes back to the dorm at 2 am, takes a swing at you as you're shoving him back into the hallway before he can puke in the room (but is so drunk, doesn't remember it the next day), and at some other point is in such a stupor that he tries to take a piss in the trashcan & ends up hitting your loft, rug, and socks?

Cow of Shame Posted October 31, 2005 Posted October 31, 2005 heh...I suppose it shouldn't be surprising for lots of people to have @sshole roommates. It's a hard lesson to learn, but one that you learn quickly...don't let the university find your roommate for you. Typically, you don't have a choice your freshman year, but there's no excuse after that...

Dreamweaver Posted October 31, 2005 Posted October 31, 2005 Anyone have a roommate who thought it was a good idea to make popcorn at 3 AM, in the microwave on high for 4 minutes, and leave the room? That would be my roommate. All the dorm fire alarms went off, everyone had to evacuate, and the room reeked of burning popcorn for days. Ruined my microwave too. The only thing that was consoling, is that I wasn't spending the night then. I have many other stories I could share, but I won't for the sake of charity. Ever since then, I watch popcorn like a hawk, lest I smell the putrid acrid smell of burning popcorn.
Cow of Shame Posted November 1, 2005 Posted November 1, 2005 Roommate didn't burn the popcorn, but he would microwave food, then completely forget about it. I would find it when it started smelling so bad it would escape the sealed confines of the microwave....
