photosynthesis Posted November 4, 2005 Posted November 4, 2005 Where does the tradition of naming years as "the year of the Eucharist" or "the year of the Rosary" or "the year of (insert cool catholic thing here)" come from?
the_rev Posted November 4, 2005 Posted November 4, 2005 who knows, i think it'd be cool to have a year of reconciliation or a year of divine mercy!
zabbazooey Posted November 4, 2005 Posted November 4, 2005 A Year of Reconciliation!!!!! Sweeeeeet. Is Pope Benedict XVI gonna name the year or not?
Dreamweaver Posted November 4, 2005 Posted November 4, 2005 I think our day and age needs a Year of Chastity. Of course it could be supplemented with a Year of Reconciliation.
prose Posted November 4, 2005 Posted November 4, 2005 I was wondering about this... Is every year named something?

Proud2BCatholic139 Posted November 4, 2005 Posted November 4, 2005 No, I guess the legacy of JPII still lives on. His devotion to our Blessed Mother was devout. He wanted the same for the world, for the world to have more of a devotion to our Blessed Mother. As First Saturday Devotions are very important regarding the promises made in Fatima. Then, the year of the Euchrist. He was trying to evangilize Catholics to come back and have a greater devotion of the sacrament. For Catholics to grow closer to Christ through the Euchrist. I don't think I am making much sense now. But, it's all wound up in my head, it is just hard to type it out. Sorry for rambling on.

littleflower+JMJ Posted November 4, 2005 Posted November 4, 2005 i think its something our late Holy Father Pope John Paul II did as he was leading the Church into the millenium (sp?) as we passed those couple of years in 2000 i dont think it was done before that though so it might not continue after--but I guess its up to our HolyFather to follow it or start something new
photosynthesis Posted November 5, 2005 Author Posted November 5, 2005 I think it's a cool idea!!! I am hoping that for the feast of Christ the King, our Catholic club can have a Eucharistic procession around campus!
the_rev Posted November 5, 2005 Posted November 5, 2005 I believe the Year of the Eucharist was followed with a 1 year break.
Totus Tuus Posted November 5, 2005 Posted November 5, 2005 I heard the years leading up the Jubilee were named especially, and then a couple of years since then have been named (or just one... The Year of the Eucharist... I'm not sure). But that most of the time the years don't have names.
photosynthesis Posted November 5, 2005 Author Posted November 5, 2005 there was the Year of the Rosary... I'm not sure if that was the last liturgical year..
photosynthesis Posted December 27, 2005 Author Posted December 27, 2005 does anyone know if this current liturgical year has a name?
the_rev Posted December 27, 2005 Posted December 27, 2005 In austrailia a diocese named it the year of ST. Francis Xavier Remember reading it on the web.

son_of_angels Posted December 27, 2005 Posted December 27, 2005 I think we should have the Year of Rome, where there is an indulgence attached to a pilgrimage to Rome, and a huge celebration of Roman Church.
daugher-of-Mary Posted December 27, 2005 Posted December 27, 2005
I think we should have the Year of Rome, where there is an indulgence attached to a pilgrimage to Rome, and a huge celebration of Roman Church.
hmm...I don't know. I don't think that would go over terribly well with the Orthodox as the effort toward reconciliation continues. Cool idea though! Oh to be in Rome!
photosynthesis Posted December 27, 2005 Author Posted December 27, 2005 I like the idea of dedicating a year to the patron saint of missionaries but maybe I'm a little biased seeing that I am thinking about becoming a missionary!
