Reply to "Wedding Masses" by Mariology

A friend of mine wishes to get married on the Feast of the Annunciation. She's thinking March 25th 2008 which is during the Octave of Easter. I brought up the thought that I wasn't too sure if wedding Masses could be celebrated during the Octave of Easter. Can someone clarify this for us? Could they still have a wedding just outside of Mass? (And yet still in the Church....they want to be married in the Church as they are both extremely devout Catholics.) Or am I completly wrong and they could have a wedding Mass?

Thanks!!!

Ritual Masses e.g. Marriage are not allowed on Solemnities with obligation, Sundays of Advent, Lent, and the Easter Season, The Paschal Triduum, All Souls Day, Ash Wednesday, Weekdays of Holy Week and the Days in Easter Octave.

Marriage can still be celebrated outside Mass with the proper readings.

As in all things it's better to check for any local variations with the local pastor.

The Annunciation will not be March 25, 2008 because its during the Octave. Instead It will on March 31st.

oh, i see now, you were responding to what cappie provided here.

ANYway, according to what cappie said, you can't have a wedding on a day of obligation or during the easter season, so that should answer your first question. i sent a pm to cappie for him to answer your question about weddings in the church but outside of the mass.

There is no problem having a wedding outside of Mass on those days except Holy Saturday (if we are talking about Saturdays)
