Extra ecclesiam nulla salus Posted November 6, 2005 Posted November 6, 2005 nice. hes celebrating a tridentine mass.
Aloysius Posted November 6, 2005 Posted November 6, 2005 is he? : that'd be pretty cool. I've heard that as Cardinal Ratzinger he would celebrate the Mass of Pius V privately... I think that him doing a public tridentine mass as pope would make bigger headlines in the Catholic news world... from the picture that could just as easily be a novus ordo missae done correctly with all the venerable traditions that are supposed to remain in it. Judging from the fact that the book is not on the altar, but being held up in front of him, I believe it is a novus ordo missae. The lesson and the gospel are both chanted in the tridentine mass with the priest facing the altar and thus the lectionary can rest on the altar, no one need hold it up..
the_rev Posted November 6, 2005 Posted November 6, 2005 From the site of the picture, http://stpeters-troy.tripod.com it says that he is celebrating a tradiitional Tridentine Mass.
qfnol31 Posted November 6, 2005 Posted November 6, 2005 (edited) But he's also a Cardinal in the picture. Edited November 6, 2005 by qfnol31
Pio Nono Posted November 6, 2005 Posted November 6, 2005 JMJ 11/6 - Thirty-second Sunday Yeah, but it doesn't make it any less cool. :
zabbazooey Posted November 6, 2005 Posted November 6, 2005 that's cool. I'd like to see a non schismatic tridentine mass someday...
Thy Geekdom Come Posted November 6, 2005 Posted November 6, 2005
But he's also a Cardinal in the picture.
Nice graphic effect...really grabs your attention to the fact that the pope wasn't celebrating a Tridentine Mass (as cool as that would be).
the_rev Posted November 6, 2005 Posted November 6, 2005
what is a tridente mass ?
It is a latin mass, celebrated by the missal of 1962. It's awesome! You should really go to one some time, your life will be forever changed! Yours in Christ, Eddie Lee
