Posted

Holy days of obligation are days when Catholics are obligated to attend Mass. Every Sunday a Catholic is obligated to attend Mass. In addition to Sundays, Catholics have special days that they are obligated to attend Mass.

They are:

1. December 8, the solemnity of the Immaculate Conception

2. December 25, the solemnity of the Nativity of Our Lord Jesus Christ

3. January 1, the solemnity of Mary

4. Thursday of the Sixth Week of Easter, the solemnity of the Ascension

5. August 15, the solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary

6. November 1, the solemnity of All Saints

Whenever January 1, the Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God, or August 15, the solemnity of the Assumption, or November 1, the solemnity of All Saints, falls on a Saturday or on a Monday, the precept to attend Mass is abrogated.
