StColette Posted November 8, 2005 Posted November 8, 2005 Since I'm sick I thought yall might like to hear about why you should drink Pineapple Juice instead of Orange Juice. My doctor and aunt were the ones who told me about this first.
When your doctor tells you to drink fruit juice for your colds, you'd probably think of the good old OJ. This is good, but maybe you should consider pineapple juice instead. It has vitamin C like orange, but because it is coupled with bromelain, it helps suppress coughs and loosens the mucus that often accompanies colds. So the next time you get a cold, try making your own natural cough syrup by combining 8 ounces of warm pineapple juice and 2 teaspoons of honey. Vitamin C in itself is the body's primary water-soluble antioxidant, defending all aqueous areas of the body against free radicals that attack and damage normal cells. Free radicals have been identified by medical sources to promote the artery clogging and diabetic heart disease, cause asthma attacks, damage the cells of the colon so they become colon cancer cells, and contribute in osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. This would explain why diets rich in vitamin C have been shown to be useful for preventing or reducing the severity of all of these conditions. 3. Look ma, no more swelling! Bromelain contains protein-digesting enzymes that can effectively reduce inflammation and swelling. In clinical human trials, bromelain has been seen to significantly reduce swelling in conditions such as acute sinusitis, sore throat, arthritis, gout, etc. and speed up recovery from injuries and surgery. To maximize bromelain's anti-inflammatory effects, pineapples should be eaten alone between meals or else, its enzymes will just be used up digesting food.
It doesnt relieve pain it just puts you asleep so you dont feel the pain. Unfortunatly it didnt put me to sleep. Doesnt Pinapple juice like "fry" your tastebuds. I know that i cant eat to much pineapple cause then it starts to sting. all that acid
prose Posted November 9, 2005 Posted November 9, 2005 Let's compromise.. the best cure: pineapple (for the bonuses stated) Southern Comfort (everyone know alcohol kills germs) and ginger ale (in case your tummy hurts) Mix 'em together and you have a great drink and a cold cure!!

Actually pineapple has less citric acid than orange juice.

Darn food network! I was watching an interesting show about a hot dog joint called Hot Dogma in the basement of a cathedral and the profits would go to the church. Now I would like to consume a good hot dog and/or chilli dog...
