The topic title may be a mis-leading, but I recently started to attend the Latin Mass in the Green Bay area. As a new person I was introduced you could say to a lot of people. One family lived 10 miles from my house and frequently invites me over for supper, or I do something with their eldest child who lives only a few blocks from my house.

I have been told by a one or two people whom I talk to online that go to that mass tell me that they believe this one girl has a "crush" on me per to se. The funny thing is the first time I went to this parish I told myself I'd like to get to know this girl.

Now you have to understand Latin Mass Catholics are more conservative or strict when it comes to "dating" They usually don't allow this til the age of 16 up until the age of 18. (Usually)

If I wanted to get to know a particular girl, would it be intrusive to go up to her and say something like, "I know we don't really know each other, but I've noticed you and thought I might like to get to know you better. "

Can anyone offer advice? Now as winter approaches I won't be going there fore mass as often. I won't be going this weekend, probably cause I have pnemonia.

Advice guys and gals of PM?

Yours in HIM,
Ed

"Latin Mass Catholics?" Catholics are Catholics. Officially, the Church teaches that a woman can get married at 14, and a man can get married at 16. So officially it doesn't seem like the Church would have a problem with dating at those ages.

Just become friends with her. Say hello. Compliment her, say you like her clothes or her hair. Ask her how she's doing.

saying "I've noticed you and thought I might get to know you better" might be honest, but you don't want to overwhelm her.

You said that some parishoners have stated that they "believe" that this girl has a crush. Until it becomes verified if she truly likes you or not, leave the situation be.

Why not just be friends with her?

you can characterize catholics in such a way as: :Latin mass catholics they go to latin mass most of them cover their head, they tend to be more conservative then say a Charasmatic catholic would be. Not only relegiously conservative but also they could have different ideas about life and possibly dating. She is not of courting age apparently. when she turns 16 ask her if she would like to go out. if she says yes than ask her father if you can take her out for a night.

yes, but the traditions of culture are different from objective morality. If the Church teaches that it is OK for women to marry at 14 and men @ 16 (in accordance with the law of the land) then why should it not be acceptable to court at those ages?

You're never too young to be friends with someone. I would say it doesn't matter what any of your friends say about crushes or so forth. if you like her, just say hi and let the relationship evolve naturally.

but that was back when people married much younger. im not saying its wrong, but its just not part of the culture in America.

I realize this, but the main reason for my post was to save rev from some possible unnecessary embarrassment.

They're just talking about the parent's regulations. parents are perfeclty within their rights to decide when their kids start dating.

Everyone knows I'm a strong supporter of young marriage, but it's up to the parents ultimately.

I'm not saying the_rev should propose to the girl, but you don't know what the parents are going to say unless you find out :) one would be better off becoming friends with the girl and seeing what happens.
