Matty_boy Posted November 13, 2005 Posted November 13, 2005 I'm set to take my LSAT in 3 weeks and am really thinking about going to Ave Maria Law School. I hear it's the best for Law and Catholicism, similar to my undergrad at Benedictine College (Go Ravens!) Anywho, I'd like to know what the school is like. Anyone? Anyone?
the_rev Posted November 13, 2005 Posted November 13, 2005 I either intend on going to Law School at Ave Maria or at Marquette.
DAF Posted November 13, 2005 Posted November 13, 2005 I'm hell bent on going to Ave Maria to get a B.A. in Theology and philosophy. It's a good, small school, and one of only 5 or six truely catholic colleges(/universities) in the country. E.g. Notre Dame is a good Catholic school on paper, but you'd be lucky to hear them admit they're Catholic.
StColette Posted November 13, 2005 Posted November 13, 2005 If Ave Marie University were accredited I'd considered them for Graduate School.
bamagirl135791 Posted November 13, 2005 Posted November 13, 2005 I've heard of Ave Maria, and if I were still going to be a lawyer instead of a reporter I would definetly consider it as a choice.
Nathan Posted November 14, 2005 Posted November 14, 2005 If, at the end of my undergraduate studies, I choose not to become a priest, I will definitely consider Ave Maria Law School. Law school is my plan B, and Fr. Joseph Fesso, S.J. (Ave Maria's founder and Provost) is one of my heroes.
tojo Posted November 14, 2005 Posted November 14, 2005 I live across the street from the original, Michigan campus of Ave Maria College. Ave Maria Law School is in the adjacent city.

blueufo7 Posted November 14, 2005 Posted November 14, 2005
they're not?
nope, not accredited YET! it takes a few years for a law school to get a accredited, and Ave Maria hasn't been around longer than just a few years. however, if you end up going there, there's an extremely high likelihood that the school will be accredited while you are there. i heard that Ave Maria is VERY up and coming and that the faculty and education is phenomenal. If accredited, it will probably be a first tier law school! apply there! you know you wanna!
Theoketos Posted November 14, 2005 Posted November 14, 2005 I heard that they just got accredited this semester?
photosynthesis Posted November 14, 2005 Posted November 14, 2005 who would they need to be accredited by?
Sojourner Posted November 14, 2005 Posted November 14, 2005 Ave Maria is accredited; as Theo said it just got it this year. They're also going through a major upheaval. They just made some major governance decisions that could drastically affect the direction the school is going. Google Ave Maria on the Wall Street Journal site and you'll find an opinion piece written about them Nov. 11 that describes some of what's been going on. If you can't find it, I'll dig up the link for you.
Matty_boy Posted November 14, 2005 Author Posted November 14, 2005 Ave Maria became fully accredited in August 2005.
Sojourner Posted November 14, 2005 Posted November 14, 2005
who would they need to be accredited by?
The American Bar Association. And matty_boy, I'm personally looking into the University of St. Thomas School of Law in Minneapolis. It's been around about as long as Ave Maria, and while it hasn't gotten accreditation yet it's looking promising. I've heard very good things about it from people I've talked to -- a student there, a prof there, and a prof at a different school. Couldn't hurt for you to give it a look.
Old_Joe Posted November 14, 2005 Posted November 14, 2005 I have a friend who's a polisci major who's planning on going there.
