the_rev Posted November 14, 2005 Posted November 14, 2005 Why was it customary to cross themselves at this part of the Sanctus? Is it wrong that I do this at each mass I attend?
cappie Posted November 14, 2005 Posted November 14, 2005 (edited) I have no idea, however it was the priest only who made the sign of the cross at this time (I was an altar server). I don't think it's a problem for anyone. It's different with the invocation after the penitential rite however. The prayer today is "Misereatur vestri omnipotens Deus, et dimissis peccatis vestris, perducat vos ad vitam aeternam." To which the server answered Amen. The following prayer with it's sign of the cross is now omitted, "Indulgentiam+absolutionem et remissionem peccatorum nostrorum, tribuat nobis omnipotens et misericors Dominus." to which the server answered Amen So it would be a mistake to interpolate the sign in the first prayer which is retained. Edited November 14, 2005 by cappie
