Old_Joe Posted November 15, 2005 Posted November 15, 2005 I was just adding some movies onto my Amazon wishlist, and added several movies based on Shakepeare. (Hamlet, Merchant of venice, Henry V, Richard III) I was just curious to see what other people here thought.
Era Might Posted November 15, 2005 Posted November 15, 2005 Raymond Arroyo had someone on his show the other night talking about how Shakespeare may have been Catholic.
Piccoli Fiori JMJ Posted November 15, 2005 Posted November 15, 2005 I like going to watch the plays They are so awesome... Movies of them are so-so...
morostheos Posted November 15, 2005 Posted November 15, 2005 Here's the book of the author that was recently on EWTN. It was a very interesting interview!! Socrates Posted November 15, 2005 Posted November 15, 2005 I'd recommend reading the complete texts. Most movies and modern stage productions leave things out and misinterpret the plays.
Piccoli Fiori JMJ Posted November 15, 2005 Posted November 15, 2005 I've read most of them before I saw them...
Sojourner Posted November 15, 2005 Posted November 15, 2005 I've read a handful of the plays and seen several done on stage. I much, much, much prefer stage productions to most of the movies I've seen. Shakespeare's fantastic ... it's amazing how relevant his observations of human nature are hundreds of years later.
missionseeker Posted November 15, 2005 Posted November 15, 2005 Fan but we have a puny library that doesn't have much Shakespeare. I have to do inter Library loan which takes forever. I've read close to ten of his plays. and working on getting more. just finished merchant of Venice. I've only seen 3 plays. (Corialanus, As you Like It, and Macbeth)
missionseeker Posted November 16, 2005 Posted November 16, 2005 (edited) I can't believe i killed the Shakespeare thread. I wasn't even off topic! Edited November 16, 2005 by missionseeker
missionseeker Posted November 16, 2005 Posted November 16, 2005 Right now, The Tempest and The Taming of the Shrew and As You Like It are my favorites. But Hamlet and King Lear are my favorite to quote from.

Jaime Posted November 16, 2005 Posted November 16, 2005 If anyone wants a wonderful introduction to Shakespeare, I strongly recommend "A Midsummer Night's Dream" Its hysterical on stage.
homeschoolmom Posted November 16, 2005 Posted November 16, 2005 We have tons of Shakespeare stuff for children around this house (plays done in comic book form, pop up book of the Globe Theatre, etc... etc...) HSdaughter loves them.
Aloysius Posted November 16, 2005 Posted November 16, 2005 Barnes n Noble recently had a large quantity of really nice thick books of a few classics, including one for The Complete Works of WIlliam Shakespeare. for some odd reason it seemed they coudln't be rid of them and had to keep slapping sale after sale. I believe I got mine for about $17 plus a 20% member discount. I have seen only some movie versions of Henry the somethingith and of course the Hamlet with Mel Gibson... but I do enjoy reading the plays as well as watching their movies, I probably would enjoy, but never have had the chance, watching one performed on a stage.
Azriel Posted November 16, 2005 Posted November 16, 2005 Love him! Of course, I majored in English, so it was like almost a requirement. Would love to go to Stratford sometime.
