little_angel202 Posted November 15, 2005 Posted November 15, 2005 ok this may seem a wierd question, but is it ireverent to say prayers in the shower / bath ??
Laudate_Dominum Posted November 16, 2005 Posted November 16, 2005 No, in fact we should strive to pray always. This does not mean necessarily vocalizing prayers at all times, or even thinking prayers at all times. This is hardly practical or even necessarily healthy. But we ought to cultivate an awareness of the presence of God and our interior communion with God in such a way that our lives are lived in as perfect a union with Him as possible. There is no occassion in life that is too mundane or earthy to include God, He is omnipresent anyway. The profane aspects of our lives ought to be sacralized. It is the state of the heart that can profane our prayers, not our exterior circumstance. If the source of the question is an idea that being naked whilst showering or bathing is itself a cause of profanation, I must make a remark or two. Nakedness is not in itself offensive to God. It is the misuse and abuse, or rather sinful use of nakedness that is an offense. In itself, our nakedness is a good and holy thing created by God Himself. There is no reason to be ashamed of our nakedness before God because the source of such shame is the sinfulness of humanity (the fallen state) and God is quite beyond that. We are as children before God, and what parent would be offended by giving their young child a bath?
