Theologian in Training Posted November 18, 2005 Posted November 18, 2005 I admit I am trolling, but I am a bit desperate, so please do not delete this post Can you properly defend this question? As most of you know I have been working very hard at my Masters of Divinity thesis. Now, I am coming close to the end, however, I am in need of some information that could definitely help me. I realize I should have done this earlier, but the insights were not flowing as readily as they are now. Not to mention the fact that I was so overwhelmed the last thing I wanted to think about was my thesis. Anyways, I am going to use this poll as a statistic. Granted, it will not be entirely "to scale," but I am desperate and in need of some help. So, I ask as many people as they can to answer this question, and answer it as honestly as you can. if you answer that you do not like apologetics, if it would not be too much trouble, I would ask that you explain your reasons. I would also ask that, if it is not too much trouble, you let me know the level of education you have. See, I am trying to determine how many people in the pew could actually properly defend the faith. The reason for such is a chapter devoted to setting up a pastoral plan for apologetics. In CCD, RCIA, and, the reason for the poll, from the pulpit. I also plan on creating a poll for non-Catholics as well. Thank You God Bless
Paphnutius Posted November 19, 2005 Posted November 19, 2005 (edited) I have not voted for I think that the definition of worship needs to be given for a proper vote. Edited November 19, 2005 by Paphnutius
Theologian in Training Posted November 19, 2005 Author Posted November 19, 2005 That was actually the point, since that is usually the accusation that people level against us. Ah well, no one seems interested in this poll, so I am going to have to find another approach. thanks God Bless
Theologian in Training Posted November 19, 2005 Author Posted November 19, 2005 Would a mod please delete this thread. It seemed like a good idea at the time, but no one seems to be interested. thanks
phatcatholic Posted November 21, 2005 Posted November 21, 2005 nutty, it seems like you should vote "yes" since defining the word "worship" is how you would respond to the accusation. theologian, i want to keep this thread up for a while to see if anyone else votes on it. also, you should make a similar poll over at the catholic.com forum. they tend to get more traffic pax christi, phatcatholic
cmotherofpirl Posted November 21, 2005 Posted November 21, 2005 phat send it to open mic and I will pin it for Theo
Myles Domini Posted November 21, 2005 Posted November 21, 2005 Worship is such a clumsy word, nai? Dulia, Hyperdulia, Latria. Think anyone out there is coming up with English equivalents to make it easier to explain?
Old_Joe Posted November 21, 2005 Posted November 21, 2005 Paphnutius is right it depends on you meant by worship.
Theologian in Training Posted November 22, 2005 Author Posted November 22, 2005 That was the point of this poll. However, even with it pinned it does not seem to be generating much of a response. It will be interesting to see what happens to this poll, because if it does generate enough results then I may use it in my thesis, as for right now I have already begun exploring other options. Thanks Cmom for pinning this God Bless
cmotherofpirl Posted November 22, 2005 Posted November 22, 2005 The trouble is most everyone here understand the problem is the word "worship" :
megrc Posted November 22, 2005 Posted November 22, 2005 Theo, I am only 21 and my little sister is 14 and we have talked about this topic MANY times because we live in a mainly Baptist area. We are constantly defending the fact that we don't worship Mary. Hope this helps. Oh, I graduated High School and my sister is home schooled, but she's Freshman-Sophomore level.

Tony Posted November 22, 2005 Posted November 22, 2005 hmm I dont know how to vote.. it depends on the other person's ignorance.
rckllnknny Posted November 22, 2005 Posted November 22, 2005 (edited) christians worship God. worship isnt praying. Edited November 22, 2005 by rckllnknny
Birgitta Noel Posted November 22, 2005 Posted November 22, 2005 I voted. I have an MA in Phil and am working on a PhD. I'm a cradle Catholic and taught CCD for 3 years (5th and 8th grade).
Totus Tuus Posted November 22, 2005 Posted November 22, 2005 I voted yes; presuming I did not get nervous and go blank, I could properly defend that statement. Actually, that one is more broad and easy than most, so I don't think I would go blank at all.
fatboyluis Posted November 23, 2005 Posted November 23, 2005 hmm yeah, sry if it seems that the question is wrong, but the problem id deffinatly with the "worshipping" of Mary, im just a Catholic Lad, i am a convert but i could defend our views on Mary
FutureSoror Posted November 23, 2005 Posted November 23, 2005 I can. I don't know how well I would do on the spot, however. I have taken an apologetics class, and I do enjoy it, but the arguments don't stick with me if I don't use them. level of education: high school.
