Fidei Defensor Posted November 20, 2005 Posted November 20, 2005 Okay, since God is outside of time, does that mean that all he created, creates, or will create all happen at once? What i mean is, is it possible for there to be the "potential" for God to do something, but not to do it, since all the actions of God are the most perfect and only possible choice of all possible actions, since God is all perfect. Therefore, any action he preforms is the only possible action. I am confused because maybe i dont understand that concept correctly, dealing with potential and God's actions? Can God choose to not do something, or is there no such thing as potential, but rather, only what God does? If someone could explain, i would be very greatful.
Paphnutius Posted November 20, 2005 Posted November 20, 2005 It would seem like you would be in good company in the thread "Could God make a rock..." on the debate board. I would say that while God is at the same time beyond time, or transcends time, He also acts in time. The revelation to Moses and the Incarnation as two prime examples. It would appear that God preceives all time once and individualy. We really cannot comprehend how this is done for we are bound by our nature of creature to think only in the confines of time. Aquinas deals with your "potential" questions somewhat in the first part of the Summa Questions2-3. I would say there is only what God does, because God Himself is being, He is existence. It is God, as the first mover, and uncaused causer, that is the basis of all reality.
