the_rev Posted November 27, 2005 Posted November 27, 2005 Today I attended our local Novus Ordo parish because I had to lector. The priest decided to do something special for Advent. The advent candle was processed in, a proclomation made, and this weird social Concern song called "We are Called" was sung. Anyways, the mass started with the sign of the cross, then the proclamation, song, and the priest totally skipped the pentitential rite and went into the opening prayer after the song. Is this allowed? Thanks. In Him, Ed
cappie Posted November 27, 2005 Posted November 27, 2005 It seems to be a custom in some places if you have the lighting of the Advent Candles the penitential rite seems to disappear. The only time I am aware the rite is "dropped" officially is on Palm Sunday when the blessing of the Palms and procession takes place and on Ash Wednesday when the Blessing of Ashes takes place after the Gospel. Besides the Advent Wreath is not in the Roman Missal.
