missionseeker Posted November 28, 2005 Posted November 28, 2005 Today, at the preparation of the wine (), the deacon, instead of pouring the wine into the chalises and then the water, poured the water into the wine in the cruit (sp) and then poured the wine into the 2 chalises. Is that right, ok, allowed?
journeyman Posted November 29, 2005 Posted November 29, 2005 I hope so . . . (even though we don't have a deacon) I've never seen it done any other way at our parish
missionseeker Posted November 29, 2005 Author Posted November 29, 2005 oh. right. I thought there might be some special name for it.
photosynthesis Posted November 29, 2005 Posted November 29, 2005 a lot of parishes also call it "the preparation of the gifts"
missionseeker Posted November 29, 2005 Author Posted November 29, 2005 I thought I had heard it called different names.
Fidei Defensor Posted December 2, 2005 Posted December 2, 2005 I've always seen doing it in that manner as removing the symbolism a bit. Adding the water to the wine in the Chalice has more symbolism and importance attached to it, than just adding the water prior to pouring the wine into the Chalice.
Matty_boy Posted December 2, 2005 Posted December 2, 2005 I would be cautious about that. Each Sacrament has to follow specific matter and form and I'm not sure that what the deacon did follows.

par 178 of the Girm actually says to pour the wine and water in the chalice.
