zabbazooey Posted November 28, 2005 Posted November 28, 2005 I went through RCIA and was baptized, confirmed, and given first communion at the parish I go to now. I have been going there for two years now, and I love it. I pass up two other parishes that are closer to my house, but I really love the parish I go to. Can I justify passing up the other churches to go to the one I am attending? I really love the parish, and it's where I received baptism, confirmation, and first communion. It's very special to me.

philothea Posted November 28, 2005 Posted November 28, 2005 Yes, of course. The only issue is if you need emergency/special sacraments... I gather that your "local" parish is supposed to be the one to provide these, and your chosen, non-local, parish cannot neglect their locals to serve distant attendees.
cappie Posted November 28, 2005 Posted November 28, 2005 No problem From the Code of Canon Law: Can. 515 §1 A parish is a certain community of Christ's faithful stably established within a particular Church, whose pastoral care, under the authority of the diocesan Bishop, is entrusted to a parish priest as its proper pastor Vatican II shifted the overall emphasis from a purely territorial basis of a parish to the people who constitute the parish community, especially centered around the Eucharist
zabbazooey Posted November 29, 2005 Author Posted November 29, 2005 Thank you all. Your opinions are very very much appreciated!!!
tojo Posted November 29, 2005 Posted November 29, 2005 You may have seen, "local is best" comments in the other thread, Well, as I said there, that is unless you have a good reason to go elsewhere, which you do.
Guest Rick777 Posted November 29, 2005 Posted November 29, 2005 nothing wrong with it, in fact I go to a parish like 15 minutes away from my house. There are probably 5 parishes closer but the one I attend is really great.
