Did you know that this is where we get the phrase "rule of thumb"? It was also used in Europe, so it's not just 'Bama.

This one actually makes sense, as it may be a holdover anti-Klan law.

and applies now in the days of terrorism..

I got the mumps from a patient at age 24, had to be quarantined at home, needed cash to get a pizza (this was the days before ATMs) and called the bank to tell them I was coming (there were no drive up windows either). I said I would be the girl with the mask on (medical mask) and they said, "Don't you dare come in here with a mask on, security will haul you out"....

I saw that one ... I hardly ever take baths anyway, but that one is still pretty funny. The other weird one they listed is that it's illegal to get on public transportation in Gary within four hours after eating garlic, or something like that. Which I think is only considerate of the other riders, personally. :disguise:

I think the dumbest law in Alabama is the thing they call the State Constitution. Have you read - or rather attempt to read or even look at - that thing?
New York:
From an AP bulletin: The New York City Transit Authority has ruled that women can ride the city subways topless. New York law dictates that if a man can be somewhere without a shirt, a woman gets the same right. The decision came after arrests of women testing the ordinance on the subways. A transit police spokesman said they would comply with the new rule, but "if they were violating any other rules, like sitting on a subway bench topless smoking a cigarette, then we would take action." Smoking is not allowed in the subways.
We actually had a discussion about this at school today. Not the New York thing but some girls were mad because most of the time guys don't get in trouble for wearing undershirts with nothing over them and girls that they should have the same right to walk around in their braws or undershirts if they wanted to.

When men start regularly nursing babies, then I think we can start talking about undershirt/bra issues....

Actually, It's interesting that you mention it. Today and yesterday I was at UA Youth summit. I voted to pass (mock,of course) legislation that would take all the statutory laws and put them in the CODE of AL rather than the Constitution, making it no longer the longest Constitution in the world.

I also voted to pass a bill called "the Home Rule Act" which would give districts, counties, and cities the right to make their own decisions regarding matters in that area rather than having to take it to the state legislature then having to have a statewide vote on another ammendment to the State Constitution. Which for the most part is pretty hopeless of getting passed because
A) Most people are already worried about the lenght of the Constitution
and B) Most people in Alabama don't really care to look at ammendments that say something like "Pertaing to the pick up of Roadkill in the city of ______"
State legislators spend over 50% of their time debating these kinds of things.
I think AL is the only state where the state government controls the munincipalities'.
Both of these bills passed in the "Summit". One of the bills that passed is going to be presented to Bob Riley. I don't know which one, though because I had to leave early.
