N/A Gone Posted December 2, 2005 Posted December 2, 2005 an mary hear you from heaven?can she hear each and everyone of the catholics praying to her? if yes...then would this mean she's on the same level with Christ or with God? second of all... iv talk with some of my catholic friends and when i ask about mary..their common defense why mary can control and ask Jesus is the verse John chapter 2 wherein Jesus turned water into wine... my catholics friends and also my theology prof says this is an example why catholics pray to mary coz mary can tell Jesus on what to do.....
The Joey-O Posted December 2, 2005 Posted December 2, 2005 I believe that the first word in this is supposed to be "Can" not "an".

This doesn't follow because God is omniscient, Mary is not. And the capacity of Mary to hear and intercede is a grace of God, not a power intrinsic to her nature. God can bestow glory and graces upon His creatures and this in no way threatens His singular status as God, nor does it take anything away from it. Rather, it gives Him glory and reveals His power and goodness. "Eye has not seen, nor ear heard..."
second of all... iv talk with some of my catholic friends and when i ask about mary..their common defense why mary can control and ask Jesus is the verse John chapter 2 wherein Jesus turned water into wine... my catholics friends and also my theology prof says this is an example why catholics pray to mary coz mary can tell Jesus on what to do.....
Mary does not "control" Jesus. Let us not forget that Jesus is truly a man and that Mary is truly a mother. When I give heed to my own mother's wishes it in no way means that she controls me or that somehow I no longer have free will. There is a communion between us in the mother-son relationship in which by acquiescing (a free act of my will) to the will of my mother, a union between us is enacted. I'd say the place of Our Lady, given her by Christ out of His singular and infinite love, can only be understood in the context of love, with both human (which we can understand) and Divine (which is foolishness and scandal to a mind of this world) dimensions.
