Paladin D Posted December 5, 2005 Posted December 5, 2005 What do you guys think of Destiny's Child (including their solo projects)? Michelle Williams first solo album was gospel music (or Christian contemporary?).
philothea Posted December 5, 2005 Posted December 5, 2005 They seem pretty classy to me. (Anyone notice that I always answer postitively when asked about any sort of music? Just don't ask me about country!)
Era Might Posted December 5, 2005 Posted December 5, 2005 (edited) I don't really listen to DC (or RnB in general), but one minute they're singing "can you pay my bills", the next minute their singing "I'm a survivor" and talking about how independent they are. I don't know if "classy" is how I would describe them. From their song "soldier":
If his status ain't hood, I ain't checkin' for him Better be street if ya lookin' at me I need a soldier That ain't scared to stand up for me Known to carry big things, if you know what I mean
No, I don't know what you mean. But I've narrowed it down to two possibilities. One is a gun. The other needn't be mentioned. Edited December 5, 2005 by Era Might
philothea Posted December 5, 2005 Posted December 5, 2005 Yeah... hrmn. I was thinking of "Survivor" and... urgh, something else but I'm not remembering the song title. The one about being financially independent. I don't think I've heard "bootylicious" Some songs in that genre are so ridiculous.

I may be somewhat confused. Historically, I get most of my music from (rapidly switched) radio stations... I only bother to pay attention to who the artist is if I like the song, so I tend to only know anything about songs I like. (Nowadays I buy iTunes... haven't bought any by DC. Not planning to.)
Era Might Posted December 5, 2005 Posted December 5, 2005 Here's one song you might get, if you were so inclined: http://www.phatmass.com/phorum/index.php?showtopic=41256&hl=

zunshynn Posted December 5, 2005 Posted December 5, 2005 If the greatest asset that they can think of is their "booty" than I will pray for them before I'd listen to them.
Socrates Posted December 6, 2005 Posted December 6, 2005 Beyonce is hot! (Don't listen to their music, tho)
ninjakyle Posted December 6, 2005 Posted December 6, 2005 mom (at least used to) pick out the clothes ... mom needs to put more clothes on those kids
TheOliverOrder88 Posted December 6, 2005 Posted December 6, 2005 Hey I just heard some stuff of theirs on the radio... ... .. Whats that? My ears are bleeding. oh
Nathan Posted December 6, 2005 Posted December 6, 2005 I love how Beyonce was always the center of attention in DC. She always had the most lyrics by far, the most video time by far, always the one front and center. My theory is her light skin, as opposed to Michelle Williams and Kelly Rowland's darker skin. In our culture, for some reason, dark-skinned African American women can't be sex symbols -- only the light-skinned, like Beyonce, are bestowed that honor. Even black males think this way. Personally, I think Kelly Rowland is more beautiful than Beyonce.

Especially the concept of having "good" hair. But its a struggle and we have to change our mentality. There is a play called Yellowman and it deals with this issue. It played for only one day in our town, but I recommend anyone to go see it. In order for the black community to rise up and prevail, we have to deal with certain issues in our community first.
