Catholic Church no longer swears by truth of Bible

A lot of anti-Catholics are having a field day over this ([url="http://forums.prospero.com/n/mb/message.asp?webtag=lb-prophecyclub&msg=4326.1&ctx=8192"]Left Behind Prophecy forums for an example[/url]). I don't think the way they titled the article really does it justice.

Most of us know that the Bible isn't all "literal", because a lot of it is also symbolic, allegorial, metaphorical, and etc. The Bible is complete truth, just not all of it is "literal". To say the Church doesn't "swear by the truth of the Bible" (which the title states), implies that Christ dieing for our sins so we can achieve salvation, is a myth.

I think the title could've been done more accurately.

I think what happened is

1) Church says certain biblical passages aren't literally true
2) Article posts those passages with heading 'untrue,' as in the passages are totally wrong in the eyes of the church
3) People read the article and believe the church says the passages are totally wrong

For example, both creation stories can be true in a figurative sense, but they both can't be literally true unless creation occured twice, which isn't taught in the bible either.

However, this is not a papal document and it seems a lot of the passages mentioned as being untrue are said to be untrue in the name of political correctness, like man being created before woman, women having desire for men, and 'the curse of the Jews.'

I resent the idea that the groups are hierarchical.
