zunshynn Posted December 7, 2005 Posted December 7, 2005 Please tell me if I am correct in this understanding: Because Lumen Gentium was a dogmatic constitution, everything in it is part of the deposit of faith and will never change, whereas Gaudium et Spes may be amended as the magisterium sees pastorally fit in the future?
Pio Nono Posted December 9, 2005 Posted December 9, 2005 JMJ 12/8 - Immaculate Conception of Our Lady zunshynn, You are correct - Lumen Gentium is a dogmatic constitution and is to be taken as part of the deposit of faith. Gaudium et Spes is able to be modified in the future, but its essential parts are obviously true. Let's remember, too, that though it can be changed in the future, in the present it is fully binding and should inform all pastoral decisions made within the Church today. Basically, if someone's gonna disagree with it, he'd better have a dang good reason. Hope this helps. Buona festa! Yours, Pio Nono
