Another post of Cam's that appeared while I was composing one of mine....

We were kidding about things that people say about what language they prefer the Mass to be in or not be in, no one said anytging about the Sacrament of the Eucharist, or any other Sacrament.

What's up with you today?

Nothing......don't assume that there is something "up" with me.

I would defend the Mass (Missa Normativa or Indult) any day. I just don't think that making "light" of the Sacraments, or even insinuating them in a less than serious manner is acceptable.

And Sam, I don't care if the rad trads are into that, I am not.

Well, there's always google.

No, it's just me... trying to get everyone to play nicely. :)

by juggling?? juggling always leads to trouble though! first there's someone upset because they don't know how to juggle, then the experienced jugglers get out the flaming torches to show up any newbies that are just trying it and doing well... it's really very dangerous-- we're liable to burn down all of phatmass

haha... Rome the Empire not Rome the city.

interestingly enough, I was just reading a book (it was written in like, 1800 somthing, so not exactly cutting-edge research mind you) that was talking about how Latin was probably never the everyday langauge of the populace, that they probably spoke something closer to modern day italian and Latin was just for official business et cetera...

eddie are you going to be one of them anglo rite Catholics? :idontknow:

Posted

haha, eddie, there is no english rite. you're going to say the missa normativa, the universal norm for which is Latin. saying it with parts or all in the vernacular is, technically speaking, the exception and not the rule.

Posted (edited)

Technically, wouldn't the Anglican missal used by some converts be considered an "English rite"? :P:

the anglican rite catholic mass uses the anglican book of common prayer.

Well, they're not their own Rite, there is permission for "Anglican Use" Liturgies in the Latin Rite of the Roman Catholic Church however.

This is from an Anglican Use parish's website

Our Lady of the Atonement Church is a Roman Catholic parish of the Archdiocese of San Antonio, and is the first of several “personal parishes” erected in the United States for the Anglican Use Liturgy. This parish has no affiliation with the so-called “Continuing Anglican Movement,” nor with any branch of the Episcopal or Anglican churches. Rather, its members, many of whom are converts from the Episcopal Church, have been granted permission to retain some elements of the Anglican liturgical heritage while being fully Roman Catholic. Throughout the world the Catholic Church has numerous liturgical rites all under the authority of the Roman Pontiff, and the Church has always taught that there can be legitimate diversity in unity. While the liturgy used at Our Lady of the Atonement Parish is not a separate Rite, it is the only approved variation of the Latin Rite in the United States.

aren't they part of the Roman rite like the ambrosian rite?

they would never be their own rite unless the Archbishop of Canturbury were to convert. then he could theoretically be made patriarch of an Anglican Rite... hey, wouldn't that be cool? :D:
