Brother Adam Posted December 12, 2005 Posted December 12, 2005 "Cell", 384 pages, To be released January 24, 2006 Civilization doesn't end with a bang or a whimper. It ends with a call on your cell phone. What happens on the afternoon of October 1 came to be known as the Pulse, a signal sent though every operating cell phone that turns its user into something...well, something less than human. Savage, murderous, unthinking-and on a wanton rampage. Terrorist act? Cyber prank gone haywire? It really doesn't matter, not to the people who avoided the technological attack. What matters to them is surviving the aftermath. Before long a band of them-"normies" is how they think of themselves-have gathered on the grounds of Gaiten Academy, where the headmaster and one remaining student have something awesome and terrifying to show them on the school's moonlit soccer field. Clearly there can be no escape. The only option is to take them on. CELL is classic Stephen King, a story of gory horror and white-knuckling suspense that makes the unimaginable entirely plausible and totally fascinating.
Brother Adam Posted December 12, 2005 Author Posted December 12, 2005
yes!
I still say the Stand will be far better...
toledo_jesus Posted December 12, 2005 Posted December 12, 2005 sweet, I thought he quit writing novels! This one will be great. But nothing beats IT for sheer scare-factor. The Stand is a great one, but it's not entirely horror.
Lil Red Posted December 12, 2005 Posted December 12, 2005 scare factor definitely "IT" or " 'Salem's Lot"
Brother Adam Posted December 12, 2005 Author Posted December 12, 2005 I didn't find either of those scary. Tommyknockers actually scared me. The only other novel I read that gave me the creeps was Insomnia.
TheOliverOrder88 Posted December 12, 2005 Posted December 12, 2005 I actually find none of his novels too scary. I read "Salem's Lot" and "The Green Mile"....they were ok. In fact, I didn't really enjoy the Green Mile really at all.
toledo_jesus Posted December 13, 2005 Posted December 13, 2005 not all his books are scary. some are just strange, and some are actually uplifting. macbre, but uplifting.
Asher Posted December 14, 2005 Posted December 14, 2005 I haven't gotten into actually reading the books... but I've seen many of the movies and plan to start reading the books sometime. King is a genius to horror.
Earthsea Annie Posted December 14, 2005 Posted December 14, 2005 I've really enjoyed some movies based on Stephen King books, but I've never been moved to read his novels. Somehow they're just too mainstream to be appealing.
Carrie Posted December 15, 2005 Posted December 15, 2005
no way! the Dark Tower series is the best!
Anyone who has read the DT series knows that this is the truth. Bro. Adam, if you thought Insomnia was scary, read Black House. That one was high on the scare factor for me. As far as movies based on his books go...the books are always better!

The last King book I read was...Girl who Loved Tom Gordon I think.

It's a great book. Its long but well worth the read. Also, if you haven't read the DT series yet, you should really think about it. King was inspired by LOTRs when he wrote The Gunslinger in the 70s and set out to make a quest but the DT has more of a Western feel. He finally released the last book last year, so the series is complete. You won't have to wait 30 years to complete it like alot of people did. Its great. The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon was pretty good too. Not a typical King book. I really like when he deviates from his normal style.

homeschoolmom Posted December 16, 2005 Posted December 16, 2005 Cell phone users turning into crazy zombies... too close to the truth for me...
crazymaine catholic Posted December 16, 2005 Posted December 16, 2005 i've seen his house! and i have to say i like the stand. long book though :

Sometimes I find myself using terms from the Dark Tower in real life and my friends and family looking at me really funny... I know, I'm a hopeless nerd!
