the_rev Posted December 12, 2005 Posted December 12, 2005 What is this movement about, etc. I know I could read their website, but does anyone have personal expereience in this movement? What do you know about their magazine "Traces" I may consider subscribing looks interesting. Thanks for your help. In Christ, Ed
Tink Posted December 12, 2005 Posted December 12, 2005 Definitely talk to BLAZEr (I think that's his username). His blog is at beingornothingness.blogs.com. He's way into the CL movement, he can give you tons of information!
Lil Red Posted December 12, 2005 Posted December 12, 2005 you should subscribe to Traces. it rocks. CL rocks too.
Lil Red Posted December 12, 2005 Posted December 12, 2005 okay, seriously though. the magazine is really awesome. every month (since Benedict XVI's election) they have an address from the Pope; an excerpt from one of Fr. Giussani's books; an "Inside America" column written by Monsignor Lorenzo Albacete (who is a physicist with a degree in Space Science and Applied Physics) - this column always rocks!; an editorial; what's happening in CL; what's happening in the Church; etc..... if you are interested in CL and there is not a school of community near you, subscribe to the magazine to get deeper into CL.
the_rev Posted December 12, 2005 Author Posted December 12, 2005 Few questions... Is the magazine monthly> Who's involved in Communion Liberation.... What is their main aim?
Lil Red Posted December 12, 2005 Posted December 12, 2005 there is 11 issues/year ($30/yr - $54 biennial The Human Adventure Corporation 420 Lexington Avenue - Suite 2754/55 New York, NY 10170 Tel ++1-212/337-3580 Fax ++1-212/337-3585 @: clusa@clhac.com) -Pope John Paul II was not a member (as far as I know), but he knew Fr. Giussani very well; and he loved the movement. Likewise, the new pope also loves the movement. -they do not keep "official" lists of who is in the movement. -Its name synthesises the conviction that experiencing the life of faith in communion with others is the foundation of authentic human liberation. (i didn't write this, but it sums it up nicely) -BLAZEr has been involved with CL longer than i have, check his blog out: http://beingornothingness.blogs.com/
Lil Red Posted December 12, 2005 Posted December 12, 2005 Communion and Liberation (CL), is an international movement in the Catholic Church, founded by Monsignor Luigi Giussani in 1954. Its mission is the education of its members toward Christian maturity and cooperation with the mission of the Catholic Church in society today. In 1982, the Fraternity of Communion and Liberation was approved as a lay association by the Pontifical Council for the Laity. Members of Communion and Liberation learn to live the Catholic faith through a companionship within their everyday life. Community life is built through School of Community? (a weekly meeting held in places such as high schools, universities, and the workplace, with study and discussion of a text), participation in the Sacraments, and listening to the Word of God. In these ways, a person understands and lives the fundamental aspects of Christian life: culture, charitable work, and mission. Monsignor Giussani started Communion and Liberation as a Christian group among high school students in Milan, Italy. CL is now present in 67 countries around the world, including Italy, Spain, Russia, Uganda, Kenya, Nigeria, Japan, Canada, Brazil and the United States. The name of Communion and Liberation expresses the conviction that a Christian life lived in communion is the foundation of authentic human liberation. The members of Communion and Liberation see Christianity as an event that defines and shapes all of life. As Pope John Paul II affirms in his encyclical Redemptor Hominis,The Redeemer of man, Jesus Christ, is the center of the cosmos and of history.
Lil Red Posted December 12, 2005 Posted December 12, 2005 check this out: http://www.cwnews.com/news/viewstory.cfm?recnum=29047 http://www.catholic.org/featured/headline.php?ID=883 http://vaticanisti.blogspot.com/2005/08/ge...liberation.html "The aim of life in CL is to propose the presence of Christ as the only true response to the deepest needs of human life in every moment of history. In the person who encounters and adheres to the presence of Christ there is generated a movement of conversion and witness, which tends to leave its mark on the environment in which he or she lives (family, work, school, neighborhood, society, etc.). Born in the schools as a proposal to young people, CL today extends its call to everyone, irrespective of age, occupation, or social position." Excerpted from CL: A Reality in the Church.

the_rev Posted December 13, 2005 Author Posted December 13, 2005 Are there anybooks I could read about communion and liberation?
littleflower+JMJ Posted December 13, 2005 Posted December 13, 2005 whoa thats awesome! thanks for the info and links since i've heard about it from Blazer alot. that magazine sounds pretty spiffy!
jgirl Posted December 13, 2005 Posted December 13, 2005 (edited) I'm in CL, too, and yes, you should subscribe to Traces! It's a really good magazine, and it's monthy. On top of it, they often throw in these little booklets. The one thing that I love about CL is that there isn't a membership list. There's the fraternity which is more formal, and there's the Priestly Fraternity of St. Charles Borromeo which is the official order of CL priests (although there are lots of other priests who are in the movement, too). I also love all the people I have met. They are the most well-rounded and real orthodox Catholics I have ever met, and that's what really attracted me to the movement. Well...that and Giussani's writings. If you want to read books, there's a good one compiled by Rondoni that has a bunch of stuff by Giussani about the movement. I believe it's called, "Communion and Liberation." Edited December 13, 2005 by jgirl
littleflower+JMJ Posted December 13, 2005 Posted December 13, 2005 Wow, thats several phatmassers now that are a part of CL.
Lil Red Posted December 13, 2005 Posted December 13, 2005 there is more that are, that don't post anymore. as far as books, The Psalms is a beautiful book of reflections of psalms by Fr. Giussani. The Risk of Education Why the Church The Religious Sense At the Origin of the Christian Claim jgirl mentioned Communion and Liberation: a Movement within the Church by David Rondoni
