the_rev Posted December 13, 2005 Posted December 13, 2005 Beside the fact of God calling an individual what are other reasons why young people are responding to the radical calling of serving Christ as a priest, religious or consecrated? What makes you want to give everything to HIM! I'm writing an article about vocations for a website and would like some impute.
zunshynn Posted December 14, 2005 Posted December 14, 2005 What man could be a better husband? It's humbling.... I'm so undeserving of the consecrated life... and I live in a society that encourages me to be selfish. But the consecrated life... I am humbled by the fact that I am nothing. He is offering me a truth that I long for, that no one else has the guts to be honest about... God called me to him through a movie, and through the media in general, when my passion for the media was keeping me hostile to him. He bowled me over with grace when I was completely antagonistic to the mere idea of God. I have to use my gifts to show God to others... I have lost time to make up for!
Guest Rick777 Posted December 14, 2005 Posted December 14, 2005 I tried to come up with an answer but it seems impossible! The only reason that I'm considering serving Christ as a religious is because I think its His will!
benedictaj Posted December 14, 2005 Posted December 14, 2005 Um, I don't know. But when you fall in love with the Creator and King of the Universe..................what else can you do? how can you respond to His great Love?!
the_rev Posted December 14, 2005 Author Posted December 14, 2005 Just posting my thoughts here for now since I need to write my article for a website soon. Jesus is the Lord of Lords and the King of Kings....
Nathan Posted December 14, 2005 Posted December 14, 2005 I think it is basically an in-built desire, which comes from being chosen by Christ. Men become priests, and women nuns, because they are attracted to it. The thought of becoming a priest or a nun brings them joy. Everything else comes after that.
heyyoimjohnny Posted December 14, 2005 Posted December 14, 2005 I love my Church so much and feel like I have so much that God's given me, so I feel like He's asking me to give it back through the priesthood. Plus, you see people like JPII, and it's just inspiring.

I think thats right. Some have been planted with this desire to utterly cling to God, in everything, and to serve His people..... its not to say that only they are doing it. But God gives them a special grace to accept His call, if they so choose..... Just a thought, maybe incoherent Edited December 14, 2005 by memtherose

Extra ecclesiam nulla salus Posted December 14, 2005 Posted December 14, 2005 it brings glory to the lord to serve him. plus its really cool.
uruviel Posted December 15, 2005 Posted December 15, 2005 to dedicate your entire life to Him, to give yourself compleltly to Him is a blessing rare people are called to,
daugher-of-Mary Posted December 15, 2005 Posted December 15, 2005 We choose Him because He first chose us... (and read my sig. lol)
Smile_Jesus_loves_you Posted December 15, 2005 Posted December 15, 2005 It makes sense that when the one who loves you more than anything says love me back, you would say yes. people make all kinds of sarafices for things that don't matter as much. i've been asked to make one for the one who matters most of all. i guess the question for me was why not?
nowak.chris Posted December 23, 2005 Posted December 23, 2005 Divine Mercy, the Eucharist, Our Lady (our Battle Queen) but on the other hand, I know I am in no way worthy to stand before Him in such a way as I feel called. (yay for D.M.)
Philosopher Posted December 23, 2005 Posted December 23, 2005 Charity gave me the key to my vocation. I understood that if the Church had a body composed of different members, the most necessary and most noble of all could not be lacking to it, and so I understood that the Church had a Heart and that this Heart was BURNING WITH LOVE. I understood it was Love alone that made the Church's members act, that if Love ever became extinct, apostles would not preach the Gospel and martyrs would not shed their blood. I understood that LOVE COMPRISED ALL VOCATIONS, THAT LOVE WAS EVERYTHING, THAT IT EMBRACED ALL TIMES AND PLACES...IN A WORD, THAT IT WAS ETERNAL! Then, in the excess of my delirious joy, I cried out, O Jesus, my Love...my vocation, at last I have found it...MY VOCATION IS LOVE.! St. Therese of Lisieux Thanks to the holy spirit, I believe many young people are being led like Saint Therese; by love and Charity. Why? I can only imagine it is because of God's great love for us, and his calling of us to serve him after a long period of great loss in the Church. As Pope John Paul II has said, a springtime is upon us, and the only explanation I see is love. What a wonderful day to be Catholic.
OLAM Dad Posted December 23, 2005 Posted December 23, 2005 (edited) I'm not not discerning a religious vocation but I stayed in a holiday inn express last night so I'll respond. Clearly love of Christ and His church are primary in the vocation discernments that I have had/am having the pleasure to witness. Couple that with the way that society treats Christ and His church and people become defensive, like they would when any loved ones are poorly treated and abused. They see the pain and suffering and they want to do whatever they can to stop the abuse and to help. What more can anybody do then to become a religious? I'll give an analogy. As a parent you learn quickly what it means when you hear your child crying based on the sound of the crying. On the one hand you have the 'I need attention but I'm not really hurt or scared' cry. Then there is the 'I'm REALLY hurt and I need help NOW' cry. This second cry is never ignored by a good parent. I think that God is crying out to many of you with the second cry. Thank you for not ignoring Him. Edited December 23, 2005 by OLAM Dad
