qfnol31 Posted December 16, 2005 Posted December 16, 2005
Imagine what would have happened if the teacher told students "There is a God" http://www.suntimes.com/output/news/cst-nws-santa16.html RICHARDSON, Texas -- Guess what, kids? There's no such thing as Santa Claus! That was a suburban music teacher's holiday message earlier this week to first-graders. The remark angered parents and prompted the school district to issue a pro-Santa statement, KDFW-TV reported. Several parents made angry phone calls to Richland Elementary School in this Dallas suburb. ''When you take a 6-year-old and tell him, you got to spend how much time to get him to believe again? The damage is done,'' parent Michael Millett said. Later, however, Richardson school district spokesman Tim Clark said he had good news. ''The teacher did hear from Santa Claus himself, who heard about the situation and let the teacher know that the spirit of the holidays is alive and well and to pass that message along to the students,'' Clark said. The teacher will face no disciplinary action, Clark said.
Kinda sad but so funny in bold!
prose Posted December 16, 2005 Posted December 16, 2005 My teacher in grade 2 or 3 was the one that told us there was no such thing as Santa... Boy my parents were mad!! I am glad Kris took the time to write. This is a busy time of year for him!!
sweetpea316 Posted December 16, 2005 Posted December 16, 2005 I heard someone talking about this on the radio...
crazymaine catholic Posted December 16, 2005 Posted December 16, 2005 i find it annoying when commercials use santa, cause kids have to see that, and it probably confuses them. does that teacher have a problem with children having an imagination? how horrible is it when teachers won't allow children to have an imagination anymore? silly teachers.
RC_ Posted December 16, 2005 Posted December 16, 2005 My parents never lied to me about Santa. When I was in kindergarten,I informed my classmates of the truth.

avemaria40 Posted December 16, 2005 Posted December 16, 2005 (edited) I believed in Santa till I was ten, and I can't believe a teacher would say that! If I ever have kids, and their teacher tells them that, they better be prepared for a very very long phone call from me Edited December 16, 2005 by avemaria40
Antonius Posted December 16, 2005 Posted December 16, 2005 Seriously, though... As serious Catholics and not serious consumerists, should we really tell our kids about Santa Claus? I guess we kinda have to because of the society we live in, so our kids aren't outcasts.... But really... On Christmas we celebrate the feast of the Nativity of Our Lord, the Incarnation of the Mystery into Humanity. We have a big feast! The feasts of St. Nick and the feasts of the Epiphany should be the gift giving days. Kids should get some candy from St. Nick and some gifts from the Three Kings. What do you think? Am I ruining the fun? I mean, this whole "Christmas Season"(read "Advent is too Catholic") mumbo jumbo was invented by American businessmen... Just like the diamond engagement ring! I think I'll take Scrooge's side here to stir the pot.

Old_Joe Posted December 17, 2005 Posted December 17, 2005 See here's the thing, assuming these people who are trying to get rid of Christmas, Santa, Easter, etc. are successful. What's to stop them from shutting down other religious holidays like Hannukah, Kwanzaa (if you can call that a holiday, no offense), etc.
Proud2BCatholic139 Posted December 17, 2005 Posted December 17, 2005 In first grade, I figured it out, and I think being that young at the time, it helped me realize reality, but I loved imagining there was a Santa. My teacher in 6th grade proclaimed that there was no Santa. I remember that day. It was so funny.
