The Royalty of St. Joseph

Yeah, I'm not sure if this is really where I'd post this, but yeah.

Ok, so God the Father & Jesus are Kings, and Mary Immaculate serves as their Queen. Would that make Saint Joseph her Prince Consort? Would saying "Jesus, King of Earth, Mary, Queen of Earth, and Joseph Prince of Earth" be correct? How about calling when Mary, the Mother of God, would Joseph then be called the "Step-father of God?"

this would not be correct. Joseph's role in the Holy Family is not comparative to the role of a prince in a kingdom. easton's bible dictionary says that the title of Prince "generally applied to the chief men of the state. The 'princes of the provinces' (1 Kings 20:14) were the governors or lord-lieutenants of the provinces. So also the 'princes' mentioned in Dan. 6:1, 3, 4, 6, 7 were the officers who administered the affairs of the provinces; the 'satraps' (as rendered in R.V.). These are also called 'lieutenants' (Esther 3:12; 8:9; R.V., 'satraps')." with this understanding, the bishops of the Church are more like "princes" than Joseph was. In a sense, Jesus is the Prince (cf. So St. Joseph has no Divine regal title?

Posted

well, he was royalty in the line of David, giving Christ His earthly claim to King of the Jews...

can Joseph really be considered "royalty" just b/c he was in the line of David?

Perhaps he could (but he'd be very low in ranking.)

But I was talking more about his title in relation to Our Lady's Queenships When a Queen marries a man, he is called the Prince Consort of her Realm, like Prince Philip of the UK, and Prince Henri of Denark. But does this apply to St. Joseph? . It also should be noted that Mary, although Queen, was not married Chirst the King or God the King. And I've seen pics of the Holy family wearing crowns, but Jospeh's is always smaller than that of Mary and Jesus.

St. Joseph is often called "foster father of Jesus." I haven't heard "step-father."

well, as I see it if Jesus is to be a king in the line of david, and He was to claim this line from St. Joseph, then God chose St. Joseph as the rightful heir to the davidic kingship. ehh, that's the way I see it anyway

you're right. it would be "foster father" instead of "step-father". thank you for the correction.
