Thy Geekdom Come Posted December 28, 2005 Posted December 28, 2005 Nope, but I believe they're supposed to. I'm saddened because my friend, who's a very orthodox priest, has been getting a little liturgically unsound lately...he adlibbed during the Gospel at a daily Mass last week and just today, he read John 1 for the Gospel instead of the Resurrection account in the lectionary...I could be wrong, but I don't think that's allowed...
crazymaine catholic Posted December 28, 2005 Posted December 28, 2005 only at the part where you're supposed to bow. "By the power of the Holy Spirit, He was born of the Virgin Mary, and became Man." that's the only place we knelt.
philothea Posted December 28, 2005 Posted December 28, 2005 I wasn't at home, but at the parish I was visiting the congregation blew right through it. The priest stopped and knelt. I... winced. The priest had just arrived from India 2 weeks ago. I am afraid he is not very impressed.
Sojourner Posted December 28, 2005 Posted December 28, 2005 We did it. It was cool, and a very reverent moment. Then a cell phone in the pew behind me went off. For the second time. During the quiet time of reflection.

I was too lazy to type all that though...

Excelsior1027 Posted December 28, 2005 Posted December 28, 2005 Yep, my parish did it, my priest even said right before we prayed it, "we'll genuflect at the words of the Incarnation."

jiyoung Posted December 28, 2005 Posted December 28, 2005 We knelt for about 30 seconds or something.
Paphnutius Posted December 28, 2005 Posted December 28, 2005 (edited) We knelt here and also do so at my home parish.
I went to mass tonight and thought the Resurrection account was an interesting choice for Christmas time...
I believe that the ressurection account was chosen because of the connection between the Incarnation and the Paschal mystery. God became man so that man might become God. Bethlehem and Calvary arebound together so as to form one mystery (Incarnation-> Ressurection). One cannot stay at the nativity without going to the cross. Edited December 28, 2005 by Paphnutius
JP2Iloveyou Posted December 28, 2005 Posted December 28, 2005 Does anyone know for sure if the rubrics call for a kneel or a genuflection? They are not the same action. I'm just curious. The other day it is called for is the feast of the Annunciation on March 25, nine months prior to Christmas. I was under the impression that it was a genuflection, but we knelt at my parish and I saw midnight Mass at the Cathedral in Chicago on WGN with Cardinal George presideing and they knelt as well.

Fidei Defensor Posted December 28, 2005 Posted December 28, 2005 We didnt. However, I went to my grandma's parish. I know my regular parish did. Although, at this parish, it seems alot to ask just for them to even remember to bow.
djc08 Posted December 28, 2005 Posted December 28, 2005 We didn't do it. But Fr. always very, very reverently bows during that time. He's short so it he only has like 2 feet until his face would be in the floor. Hey but we did do the Gloria twice because Fr. just accidently started it at the wrong time and everyone else joined in.
qfnol31 Posted December 28, 2005 Posted December 28, 2005 My Priest, my deacon, myself, and possibly a few other people did. However, I think most did not. (We genuflected).
EcceNovaFacioOmni Posted December 28, 2005 Posted December 28, 2005 The [dissenting] parish I attended did not even say the creed. Hopefully I'll never have to go there again.
