the_rev Posted January 1, 2006 Posted January 1, 2006 I am wondering because it was a Marian Feast day, and well I'm big into Blessed Mother, so I thought it should have been all Marian Tunes, however they only had one, and all the rest were Christmassy. What songs did u have at mass today? In Christ, Ed
shortnun Posted January 1, 2006 Posted January 1, 2006 I'm going tonight.... I'll make sure to come back with a report.
MilesChristi Posted January 1, 2006 Posted January 1, 2006 There was a mix of Marian and Christmas hymns at the Holy Mass I attended. Janana8706 Posted January 1, 2006 Posted January 1, 2006 we had one for the new year and then Christmas. I think maybe one about Mary, but I don't think so.

In the "Old" Missal the Feast was known as the Octave Day of Christmas or the Circumcision of our Redeemer and Mary's Divine Maternity. Pope Paul VI changed the Name officially to the present name of the day;
djc08 Posted January 1, 2006 Posted January 1, 2006 Just a quick question. I don't understand about when the Feast of the Holy Family is celebrated? And is it a Holy Day of Obligation?

The Feast of the Holy Family is usually celebrated on the Sunday after Christmas, however, because Christmas fell on a Sunday and hence one week later was Jan 1st Feast of Mary Mother of God the Holy Family was celebrated on Friday 30th December
shortnun Posted January 2, 2006 Posted January 2, 2006 Morning Masses (according to my parish bulletin): Processional Hymn: Immaculate Mary Communion Songs: Away in a Manger; Of the Father's Love Begotten Recessional Hymn: Angels from the realms of Glory 6pm Mass (it's not called "youth" or "contemporary," but I'd lean toward the latter): Processional Hymn: Lo, How A Rose E'er Blooming Prep of Gifts: Ave Maria (a 1993 tune from Dan Kantor--very nice) Communion Song: One Bread, One Body Recessional Hymn: Angels from the realms of Glory The Mass I went to--6pm--was lovely in it's Christmas and Marian songs.

That's what we had. O Little Town of Bethlehem What Child is this Cantate Domino Resonet in Laudibus Adeste Fideles Hark the Herald Angels Sing Angels We Have Heard on High Christmas songs and hymnns.
qfnol31 Posted January 2, 2006 Posted January 2, 2006 Just as on Divine Mercy Sunday we sing Easter hymns, it is very appropriate for us to use Christmas hymns today.
EAnn246 Posted January 2, 2006 Posted January 2, 2006 Joy to the World song by the choir in Latin that I didn't recognize don't remember the hymn during Communion. I hadn't heard of it before. The title had something about winter in it. Another one by the choir in Latin that I didn't recognize. Hark the Harold Angel Sing. I wish I knew what the middle 3 were. I couldn't hear the choir while they were singing and didn't recognize the melody.
homeschoolmom Posted January 2, 2006 Posted January 2, 2006 I don't remember... I know we sang a Christmas hymn first and Hark, the Harold Angels last... In between we sang some Marian songs, but I don't remember which. I was in the back with HStot...
Noel's angel Posted January 2, 2006 Posted January 2, 2006 A mixture. When Creation Was Begun, Silent Night, Were You There? and Angels We Have Heard On High. So, 3 to 1 on the Christmas side...

January 1st was chosen as the Solemnity of Mary the Mother of God because it's in the Christmas season, it's not simply another Marian feast--it's a celebration of her awesome role in the incarnation. Anyway, we had a couple lame protestant song, Silent Night, What Child is This and Joy to the World.
