"He is expiation for our sins, and not for our sins only but for those of the whole world." 1 John 2:2 I would then ask him if Jesus' dying for the "world" was an act of love? Thanks , Wendy
Well, I don't know what he means by "bible salvation." Surely, the means of our salvation is the Sacrifice of Christ, not the collected books of the Bible. Anyhow, I don't know chapter/verse citations off hand, but here are some ideas: -Jesus said that he came to seek what was lost. Why would he bother to do so if he did not love them? -His parables of the lost sheep, the lost coin, and the prodigal son all demonstrate the love of God which seeks out the sinner who has gone astray. -He dined with notorious sinners whom the Jewish community considered "lost" and excommunicated. He called Levi, a tax collector, to be an apostle. -Looking upon Jerusalem, he said that he longed to gather them like a mother hen gathers her chicks beneath her wings. That's a very tender image of His love. Although He didn't explicitly go around proclaiming, "I love you," Jesus' whole ministry demonstrates his love for lost sinners.
Era Might Posted January 6, 2006 Posted January 6, 2006 (edited)
But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. --Romans 5:8, King James Version
Note that God showed his love for us "while we were yet sinners" by dying on the Cross. If God cannot love the lost, then we would never have been saved, because everyone was lost at one point, and yet St. Paul tells us that God died for them precisely for that reason. Hence, he loves the lost. ps: I love Mark 10:21. St. Mark makes such a profound statement with one phrase, "looking on him, he loved him". I think it's an excellent example.
